Is this fibro or something else?

Abit of a long one but I have had fibromyalgia and m.e for 7 years and suffered abit but got used to it then the last 6 months I have got these new symptoms.. I’m not sure if it’s fibro or something else or if I have something else altogether as I don’t think this is my fibro causing it....

Since 6 months ago I have had--

deep nerve pain in thighs

warm rushes down legs (mainly calves)

legs cramps at night

pins and needles elevating legs and sitting down

tingling in feet and hands

forearm weakness

slight lower back ache

groin pain (sharp throbbing)

tiredness/no energy

heavy periods

slight spd pain

I have had blood tests and they have come back normal and I have had an nerve conduction test and that come back fine.

Everyday is a struggle and the doctors are not listening as my tests are coming back normal.

Has anyone had these symptoms? please message me.

Thanks

Hi Jemcc22 ,

None of us are medically qualified to say whether your symptoms are fibro related or something else. Unfortunately fibro can throw up so many symptoms that it can be hard to tell what is what.

If all your tests are coming back as normal then that is a good sign, and it could well be that it's just all related to your fibro and ME.

I'm not sure how old you are, but if you're within range for the menopause that could also be causing some of your symptoms. You could ask your GP to do a hormone test if you haven't already had one, - although having said that, sometimes the hormone test does come back normal even when you know yourself that you're going through the menopause. x

Hi. Thanks, I know I just need advice as my doctors aren’t helping. I am 24 so I doubt it is the menopause but thanks for your reply

Not everything is fibro related. I had shoulder pain, ignored it until it was unbearable. It wasn't fibro but calcific tendonitis. Equally hot palms and severe pins and needles in arms and hands was due to compressed nerves in neck caused by osteoathritis and not fibro. It's very easy to blame fibo on all sorts of aches and pains, sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't. Know this isn't very helpful but fibro presents differently for all of us and unfortunately symptoms one person has may never bother someone else. It's going to be trial and error to a certain extent. Cramps can be due to low magnesium so epsom salt baths often help. Equally low vitamin D can cause muscle pain too. Sometimes referral to either pain clinic, fibro clinic at Guys & St Thomas's, or referral for CBT can help distinguish the different causes of the symptoms. Hope you find some relief soon.

Nerve conduction test is a test between two points. So if you have referred nerve discomfort issues nerve conduction test will not pick it up.

See a chiropractor. They could give you a second opinion if there are some issues caused by pressure on root nerves.

Look properly into B12. Blood levels can be normal but not actually getting into cells. Complicated by supplementation of B12 or folate/folic acid. Many of those symptoms could be B12 and/or an underlying methylation issue. I would start by getting a copy of blood results if you don't already have them. Cheers

Sometimes you just need to go through doctors until you find one that will take a fresh look at things. I went 2yrs in stomach agony couldn’t hardly eat anything. Lost 25lbs, saw I don’t remember how many gastroenterologists but was told I needed to go to the Mayo Clinic but I went to one more gastroenterologist who said said that I needed to have a fresh pair of eyes to take a look and he looked and saw stomach tissue in my esophagus excreting stomach acid and that was the what was causing all the burning🥵nausea 🤢and vomiting. He prescribed protonix and that allowed me to be able to eat again. It made a day and night difference. This wasn’t fibro related. It was Barrett’s Esophagus which is doing so much better. So be persistent. With your heavy menstrual flow are you having bad cramping? I had that in my younger years and the doctor said I had endometriosis. Some things are fibro but not all our symptoms are fibro. I have had fibromyalgia and CFS/ME longer than you have been arrive on this earth and one thing I have learned that fibro likes to invite other diagnosis to the party. My heart goes out to you especially being you are so young. 🤗💕🦋🌻🌷💜
