I have been diagnosed with post traumatic FMS this week following on from very bad birth of my daughter in 2017.
I have had 2 years of hell. I have had every test in the book, seen every type of consultant going (including a rheumatologist in Jan 2018 who misdiagnosed me as being vit d deficient!) Nobody has been able to figure out what was wrong with me.
Last week I went to see my GP and had a total meltdown. I came away with some Valium and a referral to another rheumatologist.
I saw him on Monday and I’d not been in the room 5 minutes when he told me categorically that I had FMS.
I have known this all along to be honest but it’s nice to finally have a proper diagnosis. I am absolutely presenting all the symptoms but there’s one symptom that’s really worrying me and I am just not convinced it’s connected to FMS. Would be good to know if anyone else has suffered this. (I doubt it because it’s really weird and I’m convinced it’s referred pain from an organ.)
When I breathe in deeply or swallow hard, I get an awful pain in the tip of my left shoulder.
It’s definitely not ectopic pregnancy. And I’ve seen enough medical professionals in the last week to be fair sure it’s not a medical emergency - ie my heart.
But it’s just such a weird and horrible symptom. Rheumatologist told me to eat a good diet, drink plenty of water and relax / practice mindfulness and currently this is incredibly hard as I’m scared to swallow or breathe!
Anyone if by any chance anyone has had this I would appreciate it if you could let me know and also let me know what you did to manage the pain.
Thanks

Yes. I’ve told 2 GPs, the rheumatologist and my chiropractor in the last week! None of them seemed overly phased by it. Rheumatologist just said to try and ignore it.
Hi tortoise84, I also had a baby girl in 2017 and was diagnosed with fibro after having a hard time just after her birth (leaking cerebrospinal fluid after a section, gallstones etc). But the reason for my reply is I got that pain you describe when my lungs collapsed. Pain at the top of my lung. Sore when I breathed in and I was unable to fully breathe deeply. Has anyone checked out your lungs? They do a tapping test and it will sound different where there is a collapse. If they suspect a collapse after the tapping test you’ll get an X-ray which is the only way to confirm it. Good luck. I hope it isn’t your lungs and is something much simpler to fix 🤞🤞🤞
I have been having left side rib pain front and back for ages. Had a chest X-ray and abdominal ultrasound in November last year all was ok.
It’s never gone away but I’ve taken comfort from having those test results and them being fine.
The shoulder thing is new. I thought I’d pulled a muscle, trapped a nerve at first but it was the thing that’s tipped me over the edge, made me cry to gp and get to urgently see a rheumatologist.
Nobody seems worried about it but it’s really affecting me. It’s driving me mad.
Don’t know if it’s worth mentioning that it’s onset coincided with me seeing a chiropractor for the first time and him cracking my back and neck.....
Obviously as I always think the worst I’m sat here convinced it’s pleurisy/lung cancer and am going absolutely crazy.
I just don’t know what to do. I can’t go to GP with it again for 3rd time in 7 days. Last Friday she told me it wasn’t cancer, I was anxious and needed to stop thinking like that and gave me Valium.
The pain is definitely real! I believe you. Cancer and pleurisy surely would have shown up on the xrays. So hopefully you can start to put that worry out of your head soon. I know it’s easy for me to say but worrying will only make the fibro pain worse.
Keep looking for answers if you want but don’t let that tip you over to the point were you’re really anxious and basically have yourself dead and buried. I know how easy it is. I’ve done it loads. But it really gets us nowhere.
Sorry I’ve nothing else to add on the lung pain... except would you consider going back to the chiropractor to describe your pain and how it came on after the last visit to see if they can explain it? You don’t have to have another session... just a chat. Good luck 🍀
I really feel for you. If you feel rough over weekend could you go to out of hours? Also, there's nothing wrong with how many times you see you GP, you have a valid reason.
I have a gallstone. I’ve had one for years. I know it’s there rattling around but they’ve said it doesn’t warrant surgery. They keep an eye on it. But the pain is in my left shoulder. My understanding is gallbladder would affect the right side?
I believe it can radiate. My friend had similar problems not long after the birth of her second baby, only in her late twenties but it transpired it was an inherited gene thing and she had her gallbladder removed. Her pain started in left side which then went to the right. It probably isn’t that but just a thought😊
That is really good to know! Thank you. If I’m no better Tuesday (Monday I’m far too busy with work!) then I’m 100% going back to GP and will be sure to mention this!
I have taken Valium 10mg 3X a day since I was 12 years old now I can take 60mg and it doesn't do anything it is very addictive my Dr.passed away and new Dr. took my valium away I almost lost my mind went to psychiatrist and she wouldn't give me them back finally they ended up giving me 5mg. 3X day which is nothing after 6 months still going through bad withdrawal .
