Just found this Guardian article on an uti site & believe infection /inflammation can migrate to your trigger point but cannot be coped with by the mercenary NHS as can cross numerous areas .Consequently this aspect is ignored by Research. By using the fibro patients for patient orientated Research this could be a collaborative venture & very worthy....

skybluepink, there is much confusion over what a triggerpoint auctualy is.

If you can imagine that a muscle is a long strand of fibers or threads and one of those fibers pulls tight in one place along one single fiber. It forms a little lump and it is very uncomfortable. Muscles are formed of thousands of these fibers. Often the fiber is close to a nerve and you can get pain refered to other parts along the nerve pathway. It is very time consuming and specialised to palpate the little lumps,, not only is it time consuming but when you find them you have only a few ways of treating them. One of the most effective I have found is dry needling,, however I have also found that often when you needle one another will form in the same muscle it is not a quick in an out therapy and you need excelent anatomical knoledge that is not obtained in a week or a year.

I was treating a friend with a few trigerpoints in long head of biceps,,, he was calling two or three times a week and each session between ultrasound and needles and constant palpation some sessions up to three hours and I was litteraly in bits.

There is no way on gods green earth you are going to get that on the NHS for anyone with the money to spend,, provided triggerpoints are the problem then find someone good that specialises in triggerpoints. But be prepaired for the long hall. I think a great example would be JFK,,, Jannet Travell was constantly working with him to keep him afloat.

Remember inflamation is a stage of healing so you are going to get inflamation with triggerpoints. Also while triggerpoints are a potential problem in people with fibro it only one problem but what caused it no one really knows and when they do perhaps their may be an answer that will address the problem,,, Hopefully!

Sorry about the long post but I hope it will let you see that it is not going to be possible with present methods to give everyone triggerpoint therapy.

Best Wishes, Ray

Hello Ray

I feel I must add that Trigger Points relate to Myofascial Pain Syndrome (often people have this alongside Fibro) not Fibromyalgia, as this is Tender Points hence the original American College of Rheumatology Tender Point Test. However, now they take into account other symptoms as people were scoring 10 and the criteria was over 11 of the 18 tender points to be diagnosed.

If you google 'Diagnostic Criteria - American College of Rheumatology' you will find a link to a PDF file all about the criteria.

Hope this helps

Emma :)

When I was diagnosed by Expert uk Prof Davies this came up maybe different here but they are the points that infection migrates to possibly microvascular as not always showing up on tests due to low thyroid [ genetic] found in my 40 .In my case heart failure ignored MI 14 yrs ago .Chronic utis acute 3 weekly since my 20s now 72yrs a spina bifida seen as weekly as abnormal EEG & one ureter too many as well as continence cellulitus issues which is primary lipo-lymphoedema from birth ?!

I was seen by late Prof Davies too, MPS is common with Fibro so often trigger and tender points involved. However trigger points are not part of Fibro. :)

How do you account for the uti infections, when not specifically controlled effecting weaker areas eg: heart, kidneys, lungs , brain & spine .Always suspected my fibro was a symptom of the genetic & the heart failure to come.

NB The reply just seen before yours ?There is a whole political problem left to fester involving boundaries & global & gender & age .I think they are involved if your body system has problems relieved via acupuncture & holistic.

I asked him on visit why Drs no longer took the Hippocratic Oath & had to ask someone on panel why ! Oh dear By thinking out of box anything is possible eg alternative medcine in tandem .I have a philanthropic project arts, usic heritage & culture going on globally ?!Tken up by those at rock face & alumni .
