Pain meds don’t work on us except Morphine in liquid form as allergies to all the rest well that’s what we told Doctors 🤭. But the best is massage but not this salon rubbish a sports or Thai, ours is the greatest with out him wouldn’t be as active as am, it is really painful but great when over and fill like new two days later.

Age should not come into it, you are in pain and must be heard, find another GP and insist on further help xx

Good evening celtlady nice to meet you and welcome you to our lovely friendly group :) So sorry to hear your in such pain. Maybe you could try talking with another GP at your surgery and get a second opinion ? Maybe this doctor has run out of ideas on how to help you or what else to try. If you can't get any joy could you think about changing to a different surgery maybe ?

Hi celtlady,

I would suggest that you speak to the Practice Manager at your GP surgery. Tell them that your GP is not giving you the care that you should be receiving and therefore he is failing in his duty of care to you.

If this gets you nowhere I would think about looking for a new GP.

Good luck xx

Maybe you could ask to be referred to a pain clinic at your local hospital. I have just had my first appointment at pain clinic so can’t say if it will help you but it is worth a go.

Have you had whiplash at any time in your life? If there is a problem with your neck this could definitely cause headaches. Any trauma to the body causes long-term disfunction. Massage can help with muscular pain but will not cure anything, it just makes you feel better. I know that massage is recommended for fibromyalgia. Good luck.

Reading your post left me wondering if you have had testing for various vitamins and minerals. As we age we are not able to gain so much benefit from foods as our stomach acid levels lower - so it is possible you have low levels of B12 - Folate - Ferritin and VitD. I am 72 and supplement. These tests are not routine and have to be requested. Docs often respond by saying they are normal when they mean 'in range'... it is where you are in the range that is so important. B12 over 500 - Folate and Ferritin mid-range and VitD 100 plus - these are levels suggested by many who know more than me - and helped me to find wellness. I am not a medic but you can read my Bio by clicking onto my username above. You could ask if your surgery has medical records on-line so you can check blood test results and keep track of results and check what has been missed. You are legally entitled to have copies of all your results with ranges.

Writing with my Thyroid UK hat on - I am also thinking - could the pains be connected to low thyroid ? - ruling out Hashimotos is key as it is the most common thyroid condition globally and rarely correctly tested - and so people are left struggling and in pain. It is auto-immune thyroiditis and poorly understood by many GP's.

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...

The link above takes you to a list - by no means all - of symptoms of low thyroid. sometimes a thyroid can be working well in producing T4 ( storage hormone ) - but does not convert well into the Active thyroid hormone T3 - needed in every cell of the body. T3 is rarely tested in the NHS - so thousands are missed.

Hope you soon find some answers and feel better.

Hi there it makes me cross and sad to read that doctors are not helping you as much as you need, I’ve been put on duloxtene was for anxiety but supposed to help with fibro as it’s a relaxant , I have codiene from doctor but told not too take it too often, I have Epsom salts bath at nite, I use bio freeze sometimes on back knees , heat pad on neck, at 57yrs I already have oestoprosis in back and a slight fracture lower back I didn’t know about , rest and heat helps me the most when I can. I hope having a chat here on the forum helps as some lovely members that do really care xx

Hey there

For the headache you could try" BUCCASTEN" you can get it over the counter , or hopefully your GP can prescribe it and it won`t cost. These tablets are used by putting it between the top lip and the gums of your teeth

It works for my daughter and these were given by the top nurse on the emergency service

I hope it works

Hi Celtlady, I am disgusted with how you have been treated. Doctors can be like that with anyone so I don't think it's your age. I am 63 and have been left to suffer for years with fibromyalgia and cfs pain. I was either bedbound or on the couch for years. I sat around thinking the doctor has done all he could but I started doing my own research on medication. After 6 years of this my GP finally referred me to a reumatologist who confirmed I had fibro and prescribed medication for the pain. He prescribed Tramadol which only works if the pain is very mild. He also prescribed Palexia SR 50mg which can take away the severe pain. Some people have taken that with a panadein forte which makes it work better. I have had to to this and it does work. Your doctor is not doing their job very well from what you have said. Don't be afraid to try a new Dr. Fresh eyes and perhaps someone who knows what they are doing might make a difference. Drs don't specialise in anything. They just make a diagnosis and then they should refer their patient to a specialist.

Hi there Celtlady, you seriously need to see a Specialist not just a GP. You have the right to tell your GP you want a referral. Also demand that he/she sends you for CT Scans in those areas giving you pain, this will enable you to decide what sort of specialist can help you. The Specialist will know what to do to give you relief.

If you cannot get satisfaction from your GP, Try another and maybe take a trusted family member or friend with you, to help you get your point across with your GP.

Good Luck, I hope this has helped in some small way. Bet Wishes, Elsie ;)
