Hi everyone

I’ve just been diagnosed after a number of ruling out tests and a good 3 years of constant pain.

I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid a good 15 years ago so have always had some form of pain or brain fog as well as the fatigue.

Anyway after a couple years of visits to the doctors and moaning that naproxen and zapain are doing nothing he decided to send me to see a endocrinologist. It was he who decided that it was most likely fibromyalgia but did a couple of tests to rule anything else out.

I went to the doctors today as over the weekend I was in unbearable pain and he’s given me some amitriptyline..... starting at 10mg increase to 20 next week. I just wondered what to expect now I’ve been actually diagnosed? I know there’s no miracle cure but I guess I’m just hoping that I might be able to get a little bit of relief and some type of life back. I have 3 young children and feel so guilty when I can’t do things with them that normal people can 🙁

Thanks Diane

Welcome to the friendly & helpful forum. We have laughs and tears but we support each other with this horrid stuff called Fibro. What to expect? Depends where you live ,how good your GP is with Fibro and if you get a Rheumi to follow up your diagnosis with any treatments. Medications such as pre gabelin or gabapentin can be useful. Main thing for yourself is pace yourself and think is Fibro going to rule you or you rule Fibro every morning you decide! Gentle hugs.

Hi, sorry to hear all you have been through. But at least you got confirmation I am still waiting for mine even though GPs that I’ve seen all said it’s fibromyalgia, possibly with an element of polymyalgia.

I’m on 50mg Amitriptyline now, along with Duloxetine and an antidepressant mirztapine, plus currently on steroids to see if that helps the polymyalgia element if that is what I have along with monthly blood tests to see inflammation levels.

I am still learning to pace myself but it can be difficult when working full time and then the normal chores at home. I done have children as such I have a fur baby! A labradoodle who is 11months old, plus a husband!

Being in here has helped me at times just knowing that I’m not alone and others understand and help with advice on how to deal with people and the comments of well you look ok! Etc.

Sending gentle hugs x

Welcome, Fibro Buddy. Watch out for constipation from the Amitriptyline for a start. 😣. Just remember good or bad we are here for you, we are all different so what works for one might not work for another. You’ll probably have to try a lot off medication till you get the right combination that works for you. Just be realistic with what you are able to do and don’t over do it, hard as you’re a Mum. Sending gentle hugs 🤗
