This is my first post. I had my first episode of sciatica affecting my right leg 3 months ago and could not believe how painful it was!! It settled after a week and was just left with numb toes. It has now come back not as painful but quite uncomfortable. My question is apart from pain meds has anyone tried acupuncture or massage etc and if so how effective were they? Thank you

We have massage therapy at lest once a month and more often when not good but you have to find a good one, ours is in Bushy. Have not had Sciatica since he sorted it. Massage is painful if you have trigger points treated but with out seeing him know would be much worse off.
Thank you Bobby3 for your response. Coincidentally I had a massage today and there were certainly several sore spots!! I am hoping it really helps - I think it is a little easier following the massage. Kind regards Traveller5

I have had sciatica in the past - so understand your pain. what helped mine was acupuncture and since my initial treatments for it; i only have mild flares from time to time. although i do find that massage also helps to keep it under control - i get a remedial, hot stone massage every few months
I have been having acupuncture on and off for about 20 years I find it's very effective for the relief of pain , and especially Sciatica, which I have suffered with for 35 years, it not only helps with pain I find it extremely relaxing, I have tried all the painkillers and got sick to death of the side effects so I have weaned off them except for paracetamol and ibuprofen 600 mg. With acupuncture you may not be aware that everyone can react differently, I am lucky the needles go in very easily and never hurt. Acupuncture in my view is a great alternative therapy.
Thank you for the feedback. I didn't find acupuncture painful but unfortunately I wasn't able to have successive treatments due to travelling. Will definitely try again once Home !😊
I have suffered on a off with sciatica since i was 19 when i fell over on some idiots spilt beer in a nightclub!
I have learnt alot about it as now im 44 And it rears it ugly head every now and again but i have found that stretching the sciatic nerve out is only way to sort it as when it hurts it means it shortened or shrunk. U can google sciatic stretches. I do them every morning and every night before bed and i have not had a flare for about 5 months!
Which is a miracle.
I also see a osteo about every 6 weeks just to align myself and keep it all good as i am getting to THAT AGE NOW... as a doctor told me...
Very cheeky Doctor!! I have found sciatica exercises Hasfit app which are very good. I need to be more diligent with number of times I do them. Thank you for your suggestion. Hope you keep well!!
Great news, they will work over matter of month or so if u persevere. I do mine every day now just to stop the nerve shrinking in day as i sit most of day in my job and it kills me otherwise( sitting for me was always worst) .
Il do in morning and before bed and hopefully another one time in day if i can.
