Fibromyalgia declared a disability (Admin: no its not)

I got this as news on my phone today I’m not sure if this is American news only but even if it is it’s a step in the right direction 🧐

EDIT by admin: There seems to be a number of copies of these stories being published on many websites and facebook. This is not breaking news (from 2016) and is being mis-characterised as well.

Fibro is not being recognised as a long term disability but as a long term health condition. It is being misreported and conflated with other things at the moment.

This post from a couple of days ago may help: healthunlocked.com/fibromya...

You're not the first to notice this today - I saw similar articles from facebook and Trophygirl posted something similar earlier today - see their post "Is it true" . x

Wow about time might make it easier for docs to diagnose with a bit of luck xx

A quick search of " is Fibromylagia a disability " brought up all American websites and social security disability claim in the US.

The screenshot on your phone doesn't seem to be anything official as the grammar is incorrect throughout. It seems to be a rather poor translation into English. I'd also question if Fibromylagia has been proven to be a rheumatic disease.

I couldn't find any change of policy in the UK.

You're right 06hollyberry This is an inaccurate report of news relating to Ireland. The U.K. hasn't changed policy or declared this I'm afraid! Would have been nice for awareness day but alas it's true...

Will hopefully clarify matters for doctors and patients in Ireland. My daughter and I were only talking about the Irish health system yesterday, her brother in law lives there.

I really hope that this is brought up to a lot of doctors attentions. Then we might be able to get a much better treatment. Also I hope that it’s put into the right category and seen as this terrible illness that we all have to live with.

This says it all. Its not just Fibromyalgia. I was the main earner in our home, a potentially brilliant career, the top was in my sights when I was finally one flare too many to keep going. Even though I explained this to the Gods of the medical world, I needed to get well enough to support my family, as many women do, they do not give a flying fig! My hubby on the other hand only has to mention he is feeling a bit tired and they throw the NHS at him! ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Hi all :)

Unfortunately, this shows how misinformation can spread and how sites that are not reputable use other sites to write articles and things are changed (like a chain of people being told a message changing) and the outcome is the information isn't correct.

As a fellow Fibromite we all need to be checking sources and it is good you posted here so FMAUK can provide the facts, this way you are informed.

Can you imagine all the people with Fibro who are not members reading this and taking it as face value without knowing the facts. Fake News and sites coping information incorrectly have a lot to answer for!

Dr Google is good source of research, if the website is displaying a mark to say their information is correct like FMAUK has the Information Standard. Also they should be giving information freely without any conflict of interest, ie an article of Vitamin D helps Fibro - please buy our Vitamin D product!

Please be savvy people and you can also check links are reputable by asking one of the team or posting as this member has :)

Hope this helps

Emma:)

Unfortunately articles like this don’t change the minds of many medical practitioners who still don’t take fibro seriously. My gp still thinks that if you ignore the pain and take paracetamol to get rid of the pain then that is good enough.....

in reply to Silmarillion

Every one fights for diagnosis But you’ve got to go to a rheumatologist and could at least four visits
