from memory Emma12348924 Amitrip is taken at night to help sleep, I think if you have the odd drink that alone should help, cannot say how you might feel the next day though! Very much depends on you BUT if you try to miss one then suggest you take the next day one around 4-5pm to help you sleep-unless you intend to get caylied!!!

I don't like to drink alcohol next day things getting worse I was loving beers with friends and unfortunately all that have to be taken away because my health problems 😖😵 but I think it all depends on your mood if u feeling depressed and drinking can drop you down 😖

Better way from anything who will make you feel worst😘😍😍😍💗

Hi I've been on amatriptyline for about 8 years I seriously wouldn't mix it with booze as it heightens the effects of the medication.. if you really want to have a drink I'd skip the meds though if your like me you'll probably feel it in the morning... I'm sure others will offer their advice they are a great group I can only say how it would effect me 😉 xx

I would definitely not mix that kind of medication with alcohol. I hope you have a wonderful birthday :)

I see you are new to our group welcome. May I ask do you have fibro?

I take nortriptyline which is very similar to amitriptyline & slow release tramadol & I'm afraid I still drink, not very much, but I do enjoy a little tipple, have to have some pleasures! I find I just feel a bit more sleepy & then sleep v badly but it's a price I'm willing to accept now & then!

Hi, I wouldn’t recommend that you take your Amitriptyline after taking alcohol. It slows your breathing down while sleeping, and the mix of the two could be dangerous. On the label of my Amitriptyline it says “ do not drink alcohol “.

However, it is your 18th, so you have to make the decision, either take it and have a drink, which could be dangerous, or leave it out and suffer pain until you get up to speed with your usual dosage.

Whatever you choose, have a great Birthday.

GP 😊😊

Happy birthday. I also think it would be very unwise to mix Amitriptyline and alcohol.

The short answer is NO!!!! either stay on your meds or go out drinking. You can't have it both ways. Trust me I tried mixing alcohol and meds when I was your age, it didn't turn out well.

Take care and happy bday

I’m also on it along side other meds and it takes more than 24hrs to leave you so it will still be in your body even if you miss a day if you read up on it does say NO booze.Have a great birthday and end of day it’s your body your choice 🙂

Emma firstly welcome to the site. Secondly happy soon to be birthday. Thirdly ofcourse you must enjoy your 18th to the full. With Amyl it takes 48 hrs to leave the system and alchohol can take around the same so with this med please make allowances at both sides of your party and unfortunately your prepare for a couple of rough nights afterwards. You must also consider any other med you may be on and make allowances for those too.

I know it must be hard at 18 to not have a drink but think what is more important your health or a night of alcohol. I am on meds that states strictly no alchohol as can cause issues even death so I not drunk in 4 yrs . I would seek medical advice from your doctor better to safe than sorry .

My daughter, who is on 50mgs daily, gets nasty nasty hangovers if she has more than a couple of drinks. Is it worth it ?

Do you really need that drink more than you need pain relief?? I'd think twice before mixing alcohol and meds, just not worth the risk and not a good idea, Emma.

Hi Emma

I wouldn't want to have tablets and alcohol as the effect of the alcohol is heightened but do have some sort of a replacement treat eg I found a hotel once that did lovely non alcoholic cocktails. Take care and have a lovely birthday. I'm going to be 'x' on Friday and at my birthday lunch, I will have something with lots of lemonade.

Your safe enough to miss a night. I have been on these for about 17 years and missed them at times. I take it that your taking them for your restless legs, you will be fine missing them for one night.
