It's annoying isn't ? , my sleep pattern is just all over the place at the the moment I either sleep forever or not at all. My husband says "It's not normal " and then I remind him that it's one of the many symptoms of fibromyalgia .
I found that getting in to very strict sleep hygiene pattern really helpful.
No screen at least an hour before bed. Tidy, cool bedroom. Same bedtime each time (even if that's 9pm or 12).trying not to look at clock if awake in the night. Keeping bed for sleeping only. Trying not to doze on the sofa. Not getting overtired (going to bed earlier), use lavender oil on pillows, not staying in bed if it's a reasonable hour for getting up.
A 3am pattern is a bit more annoying... It happens to lots of non fibro people too. Often it's cold related. Worth trying an extra blanket to pull over at that time and maybe a pair of socks?
I practice very good sleep hygiene already. Same bed time, no screens before bed, I read to unwind on the sofa then when I’m very dopey, I get into bed, I’m always very warm in bed so it’s not cold waking me up. I don’t drink caffeine, or alcohol apart from a glass of wine on a Saturday evening with dinner. I eat healthily and not within a few hours of going to bed.
Try setting your alarm 15 minutes before your usually wake up time. Then hopefully wake you up in the middle of a sleep cycle and you will be sleepy you can easily fall back asleep. Hopefully that will brake the pattern.
I sleep trained lots of babies and toddlers in my time and the funny thing is that it works on adults too
I had to retrain myself after my stroke in 2014. Went to bed at 7 every night and slept loads. Gradually pulled it back by 15 by minutes a week for several months. But being Overtired is not a good thing and makes my sleep pattern worse. Definitely good to remember what I did when my kids were small
Hi, just been thinking about this today. I wake up exactly like you described. At the moment it's three or four times a night. And you're very awake! I have tried Sominex, they do hope in the short term. I hope you feel better soon. Best Wishes, Liz Anson.
