Hello everyone just joined. Hoping someone can help me with this question. Is fibromyalgia a cognitive limiting illness.? Have suffered from fibromyalgia for many years, but still not used to how much it dictates my life.

Hi Charlene, in answer to your question, one of the common symptoms of fibro is cognitive disturbances, including lack of concentration, temporary memory impairment and word mix up, aka "fibro-fog". This is one of the symptoms I suffer with most and find hardest to accept. It has taken some time for me to come to terms with the limitations fibro has inflicted on me but finding this forum has definitely helped. I am sure you will also find it a great source of advice and support as our friendly members are always willing to share their experiences. However I notice you haven’t locked your post. You don't have to but many of our members are not too keen on responding to unlocked ones therefore you are likely to receive more replies if you do, as it prevents the whole thread being read by internet search engines. Instructions on how to do this can be found on the link below but if you get stuck please don’t hesitate to ask for help.

There is also plenty of useful information and links on our main site so you may like to take a look at this at some point:

In the meantime, welcome to the forum, we look forward to seeing you around. Take care.

Oh the dreaded fibro fog. Mixed up words, not being able to quite remember a name and doing daft things. So far I've gone to walk out the door dressed in jeans, shoes.... And a bra. And cleaned my make up off with a Flash bathroom wipe instead of a face wipe. ( that stung!)

I do quizzes and join in Countdown most days to try to keep my brain working.

Welcome to FMAUK Community! :)

Usually Fibrofog comes and goes depending on a variety of reasons (at least for me!) either if really fatigued, or if any vitamin deficiencies and basically anything like a flare that makes my Fibro symptoms worse can mean I have bouts of it. Are you concerned are your cognitive issues? If so, you can consider speaking with your GP so s/he can either put your mind at rest or do more tests to discuss any findings if any.

Hope this helps

Emma :)
