I'm new to this group... trying to find some extra support because at times I find coping with FMS extremely difficult. I've had symptoms of fibro for a long time now, but only recently diagnosed. My mum also has fibro.
I've lived overseas for 6 years working as a teacher and recently started a new job. Already I've had several days off for physio appointments and sick days. Today is one of the sick days and the guilt and anxiety is unbearable. I know that my body needs an extra days rest to recover but I've already had comments of, "...oh but you don't look that ill!" Whilst I try my best to stay upbeat and positive, I just don't have the mental or physical energy to deal with explaining to people. Then I start feeling paranoid that people think I'm lazy and taking days off for no reason...
Is there anyone else out there who teaches with fibro, how do you cope with the guilt and stress of taking days off and explaining fibro to colleagues... without having to announce it in the staffroom!!!!
Looking forward to hearing from the community π

I can not imagine trying to teach a class room full of children with how fibro can make you feel. I applaud you for even trying.
Have you spoke with your GP about how you are feeling? Have your doctors offered you any medications to help with the pain, tiredness etc. They may help to take the edge off how you are feeling even if they can't cure you. This may help you through your day.
I know many with Fibro go through the guilt feeling. If only we looked as ill as we felt inside it would answer a lot of questions for those who don't understand what we deal with on a daily basis.
I stopped trying to explain my illness to the non believer's years ago. I just found my precious energy been sucked out of me and it left me feeling very low. At the end of the day you have an illness which to be honest has nothing to do with them. You shouldn't feel you need to justify yourself to any one. I see it as been their problem not yours.
You may like to take a look at our main website it has a wealth of information. It also has a benefits section if you ever need help with that in the future.
