working tax credit
thanks
Ajay, I think taberry may have meant she is receiving carers allowance for looking after her mum.
thanks for your help
Taberry, tax credits can be quite complicated in terms of being eligible but if you are not in paid employment then you will not be able to claim them. Carers allowance is not counted as paid employment. You may be able to claim Income Support to top up your income instead.
Another complicating factor is that depending on your postcode, you may be in what is known as a Universal Credit Full Service Area. This means that the old system of benefits such as ESA, JSA, Income Support, tax credits, HB etc. has been phased out for new claimants and the benefit you would have to claim instead would be Universal Credit.
To get full, specific advice for your circumstances, you need an appointment with a benefits advisor to check your entitlement.
beware the word "Credit" tax credits can be a nightmare, try to see if you qualify for ESA instead, go on gov.uk-benfits-calculator, and fill in, it doesnt go anywhere-be honest on the form because you do have to send in bank statements, pay slips (if you get them) nothing ventuired nothing gained,, what benefits does your mum get? Some of them are supposed to support a carer.
