Air hunger issues

Hi! I’m a 43 year old mom of three little boys. Single mom at that. I have been having these episodes where I cannot take a satisfying breath. My chest feels very full and heavy but I am not congested. I have no cold symptoms. I do have a wheEze which I believe is due to maybe asthma. This air hunger has been going on for years but this time I have a cough and some chest tightness. Chest tightness I feel more at night. When I lay down I feel like an elephant is sitting on my chest .Any idea what causes he air hunger? I had a chest X-ray that came back normal and have a pulmonary function test and ct scan scheduled. Thanks

Have you had your B12 and folate tested ? Air hunger is a common symptom of B12 deficiency, and you need a good level of folate in your blood to facilitate B12 absorption. Doctors will often tell you blood tests are normal when they are borderline. My B12 was right at the bottom of the normal scale, GP said it wasn't relevant. I treated myself for B12 deficiency and the air hunger, loss of balance, hand tremor and pins and needles and numbness in my feet and hands disappeared. I followed advice on the Health Unlocked Pernicious Anemia site.

I do get chest pain with Fibromylagia. It's called costochondritis and wears off pretty quickly if I apply heat.

I had chest X-ray, scan, ECG and breathing tests so know there is nothing actually wrong with my heart or lungs.

Heart ? Anxiety Attacks ?....mine ended up being both as the heart one went on so long until I saw someone privately.

Wow Grace02128 I had to check your name 2x bc I though I wrote it while asleep. Yes exactly. I went to my Allergist who checked me me out. It turned out to be Vocal Cord Dysfunction (VCD), not asthma albeit one can have both. And, reflux. When the cough first started I could never get it to stop until I was given Chinese herbs for lungs through a Doctor of oriental medicine prescribed them for me. Within 3 day’s I was well. Now whenever that cough hits I treat it early with otc cough meds.bc it hurts to cough and,4 If I wait too long, it is harder to control. That whistling wheeze at night lying down with an elephant perched on the chest. It was part of the same problem at a different stage or with accomplices. I had to take lessons for various issues from speech at the Otolaryngologist’s. Drink lots of water! Get checked out. VCD isn’t very common and often mistaken for asthma so you might have to look up for a treatment site, get info for yourself and chosen doctor. If you can, go straight to Allergist. Or it could be something totally different. Many same symptoms accompany different illnesses. That’s why it might take awhile to sift through findings. It’s best to see your physician sooner rather than later as it might be you’re brain is ahead of the tests. It’s great to eliminate TB, Emphysema, Bronchitis and such. Good luck.

Air hunger can be a symptom of low thyroid/hypothyroidism. I would get your doctor to do blood tests and check TSH, T4 and T3 as well as your antibodies.
