Anorexia

I am in my mid 60s and am struggling with my weight. I have lost 10lbs over a period of time and now just 7stone - worrying! When I was teenager I was a bad anorexic. Hospitalised . I think since my early 30 s I’ve been a controlled anorexic but managed to keep weight up. My GP asked me if I was having the same problems as when I was young. I said no because I eat but do I eat enough? Is it still controlled. I have been given milky drinks that are full of calories. I think it’s the fibro - pain, fatigue boom, boom, boom that is wrecking me physically . Would appreciate any thoughts on this. Hope everyone reading this is as well as can be. Audrey

Afternoon Audrey, is it a recent visit to the doctors I'm guessing so , did he offer you any blood tests , just to get everything checked out that's normally a good place to start , then if everything is normal he can then offer advice what can be done for you , I think this differently what I'd ask for just to rule out anything that might not be working in your body as intended . When I'm feeling the pain and not so hungry for bigger meals I tend to snack with cheese and crackers ,cereals , pasta, jacket potato . Let us know how you get on Audrey with going forward with the right help, in the meantime take care xxxxx

Thank you Yasmintina for your advice. It was only today I went to GP. He knows me well and has repeated blood tests periodically so nothing else showing up. I will try your advice if eating small snacks often. Hopefully the calorie drinks will help as well. I hope your pain is not too bad just now and you are having a reasonably good spell. Xx

I am sort to hear that you are feeling the same. Try to keep on top of your weight if possible. This illness sucks! I hope you feel a bit better soon. Xx

Hi

At least you have faced this and are aware if their is no medical reason why you have lost weight go speak to your GP.

Ask if its possible to have some ensure drinks for the days you really struggle with pain and find it harder to eat .

They are full of vitamins and calories.

I am told some flavours are tastier then ever but worth giving a go

Thanks for your text. I’ve got a prescription for these high calorie drinks so here’s hoping. Xx

Hello to you all I have recently lost a lot of weight, I have been undergoing tests for pain in my Right side, not appendix,I had a CT scan which has come back normal but I am still losing weight (7 stone), and I still have the pain. As you know I have had Gastroenteritis, but this all started before. I am very concerned as it's not a good look. I look like a runner bean haha. The tests are continuing but my GP wants me to recover from this virus before more investigations, upwards and onwards,, love to you all, and very best wishes for a pain free few days, Pammie xx🐞🐞🐞

Hi Pammie. I feel for you! You sound very similar to me. Constant pain really lowers the appetite and I’m sure the meds do too. I have just been to the GP who has prescribed me some high calorie drinks so fingers crossed this will help. Perhaps your Gp could do the same but maybe he will want to wait till all tests are done. I wish you all the best and hope that you get stronger soon. Xx

Hi . Yes I’ve had all sorts of blood tests that come back negative. I never feel or look well but realise it’s fibro . Just hope that if I manage to get back to a more realistic weight then I will feel better. Thanks for replying and I hope you are keeping as well as possible. Xx

I think that the size or weight of you has no affect with fibro. My cousin is a size 6 or so and she eats well and nothing wrong with her thyroid and she still struggles with fibro pain.

In my view fibro doesn't care your weight it affects you regardless... it's like an illness that has no preference .. I just wish that doctors could see that fibro affect us all the same pain wise regardless of body weight or size ....

I wish you luck and hope you find comfort. Soon xxx

I totally agree with you that it doesn’t matter what size you are , fibro attacks. Unfortunately, unlike your cousin as I often feel unwell and fatigued, my appetite is not good although I try to eat well. Just not enough ! Thanks for replying .

She has always been a good eater. I actually have never asked her if she is eating much .... but she is in so much pain more than me at time ... I wish you well xx

Thanks for chatting. I wouldn’t wish this pain and fatigue on anyone but it’s good to talk to someone who understands. I hope your good days come round quickly. I had 2 nights when I couldn’t get off to sleep till about 2am. Last night I just zonked out but woke so I refreshed ( as usual) and fatigued. Oh well - every day is different.Hope we both get some good days soon. Xx
