Ignorance

Hi, I had an operation on my shoulder about 9 months ago which has brought on a major fibro flare up which was being controlled with anti inflammatorys. I have had to have a break from them as they were damaging the lining of my stomach. As a result of this I haven't got a joint that doesn't ache, I am so fatigued I can hardly motivate myself to do anything. My husband of 30 years actually noticed how tired I have been and how painful it is to move around. So I explained to him exactly how I felt and how I was struggling to deal with the condition without the anti inflammatorys. He then asked me "Don't you think you're just imagining it"? I can't be the only one who has a totally ignorant partner!

Hi hun- I know how you feel, I was listed for a "Barbotage" procedure onboth my shoulders for calcific tendonitis which stopped rotation and caused immense pain..at my pre op the surgeon advised not to go ahead if I had bad fibro because he would go into muscle which would be so sore after...I also needed some attention to tail bone (cocxyx) for inflammation with an orthopaedic guy, both surgeons advised injections of kenalog a steroid that is very effective and lasts a good while, my right shoulder is fine - the left was done by someone else and he chose to inject from the front- the right was injected at the back, left side hasnt been as good and it was the right side that was the worst,, coccyx was also injected with good results but it is wearing off after 9 months, I think it,s pretty good going really.. Maybe ask if you can have this pain relieving injection too.. as for fatigue- honey - you really have to slow down and pace yourself, I learned years ago the roof will not blow off because you havn,t dusted! Anti inflammatory can be bought in low dose from the supermarket, buy the cheapest they work just the same as a known brand, and also buy yourself some ranitidine for your stomach and gullett,, both cheaper than prescriptions...Hope you feel better soon, take your hubby to your next appt, and get the doctor to explain things are not in your head.

Thank you so much for your reply 😊 I am prescribed Naproxen which are great! and I have now been prescribed gastric resistant capsules. Thankfully I have a pre paid prescription card. But having to have a break from them is very hard. My shoulder op was decompression and partial rota cuff repair, it had to be done otherwise the rota cuff would have been completely severed. I don't see a Dr about my condition It's normally under control. It's just the frustration of living with someone who hasn't a clue!

I was on Naproxen for several years for arthritis great then my GP took me off them because they can and do cause health problems after long time usage. So taking paracetamol which don’t do a lot.

Paracetamol is a total waste of time. I'm on codeine/Paracetamol there ok but I can't wait to go back onto the naproxen. 😋

Thiers a very old saying

Ignorance is bliss

I bet he lets you know when he's feeling unwell .

I hope you severally reprimanded him .

Take Care and I hope the flare subsides soon .

Thank you Rose 🙂 I most certainly did! I still can't believe it now! What stupid and insensitive question to ask anyone when they're struggling to walk! Next time he complains about his aches and pains I'll ask him if he doesn't think it's all in his mind? 😄

My wife was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about five years ago. Like a good husband I researched it and tried to understand . I had severe osteoarthritis myself so perhaps so I thought I could relate to the pain side of it. I thought I understood. Skip a few years and I started to have symptoms myself and then was diagnosed. It was only then that anyone can fully understand what fibromyalgia really is. In many ways most people cannot relate in anyway to fibromyalgia.

Oh dear you poor things!! It is virtually impossible to describe how every joint can just ache all the time (even your rib cage aches) and the change in the weather doesn't help! Hugs to you both 🤗🤗

So right about the weather. Had to put my bin out this morning and it was bucketing down! Now I'm really stiff and sore.

Its amazing just how much the change of weather affects us, not just cold and rain, but also humidity levels!

I like low humidity, with warm, not hot weather.

What a lovely reply from you! I’m so sorry you had to develop fibro as well as severe osteoarthritis to fully understand what your wife was enduring...you were already trying to understand and support her.I appreciate it’s very difficult for you both...my husband has chronic fatigue since a virus more than 10 years ago, and I have Fibro and musculoskeletal injuries from 40 years of nursing.

The best one is, "maybe it will just disappear in the future", as if. I just let annoying comments just breeze past my head these days.

That one really gets my goat when I hear it!

Oh he said that about my stretch marks!! 🤣😂 I'm still waiting!! 😂 Honestly! Got the charm of a dead slug 😄

Hi

You could let your hubby see what people have written on here and how painful this condition is. I could not move when I was woken up with severe pain behind my knees this morning. I'm very lucky to have such an understanding his husband! Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
