Going for diagnosis

What tests are carried out to determine Fibromyalgia? The doctor has told me they will test for other conditions to rule them out first. What if you think your home is making you sick? We have a lot of black mould growing in areas of our house. I've tried to clean it but ended up with a massive fibro flare. Feeling pretty helpless right now.

Morning sorry you feeling helpless it can get you like that some days , with me I had a list of blood tests to rule out anything else, pressure points were painful when he touched certain areas , then he made a diagnosis( that was for me personally) How far along have you got with your doctor so far ? Have you mentioned the mound situation as well to him I'm guessing you mite have already looked up on the internet any information about the mound and what effects it could be having on your general health? We lived in a bungalow our bedroom was awful tried humidifier nothing worked eventually we moved our clothes had to be thrown away it was that bad xxx

That is kind of what I think might have to happen. I've said as much to my husband. I want to go vegetarian then vegan to reduce the symptoms but that would be counterproductive if we can't get rid of the mould. It would be a constant vicious circle. I know we could apply for a grant to have work done if it's discovered that it's a major factor. I think we need to live in a passive house or make this one a passive house, which could make our symptoms worse if we lived here whilst the work is carried out. I've been feeling unwell for a while like years not just months. The symptoms just seem to keep building and building every year. I'll just be glad to finally get a diagnosis.

Morning Fibrodubber

I am so sorry to hear about your situation and the mould does not help your situation.

Mould mainly causes respiratory issues ie asthma chest infections.

I have had symptoms for nearly 5 years now and just got a diagnosis.

Like you i wanted to change my diet and became a vegetarian last year, i had tried many times previously but the bacon sandwich got me every time 🤗. Now i couldnt ever eat meat again.

I am going to try the Veganuary month (January).

If you search for that its great, has lots of recipes and advice. Would strongly recommend it.

I hope things get sorted for you very soon xxx

Hi Victoriaom, yes I've already signed up to veganuary as it was recommended by a friend who has gone vegan recently. I had a horrible chest infection in January this year and haven't really felt well since. I'm asthmatic as well but my inhaler gives me no relief and makes my tremors worse. I'll just be glad to get some help eventually. Yes i will keep you all posted on developments. Xxx

Might be an idea to get to your docs, 1 for the occasional nebulizer but also your doctor can write recommending you have free work done on your house to eliminate the mould. Believe me Social Services and BHS would prefer to pay for that than continually have to pay for treating your illnesses caused by the mould.

I hope this helps xx

##NHS not BHS🙄!!

So sorry that you aren't feeling well - can you ring someone to come out and look at the mould??

That is exactly what I had done; I had two exploratory operations; loads of specialists; MRIs; x-rays; blood tests etc. It took three years for my diagnosis it can be a long time coming unfortunately. But don't let them fob you off hun keep going xxx

Yes I think that's where we're headed. Probably have to have the kitchen ripped out as well as the bathroom. We need diy sos really as I swear the mould is in every room in some shape or form. Don't worry, I have to keep going as I am losing my quality of life. Thank you for replying. It's nice to know we are not alone. Xx

I'm really sorry that's awful - is it because someone has done something wrong and that's why?? Maybe you should try and give them a call?? You are never alone hun xxx

The house has had mould treatment before but we had work carried out in 2013 and I think the dampness has got in and spread some how. The bathroom hasn't been refurbished in almost 20 years and botched diy by my husband's family has made the bathroom mouldy too. I've sealed the bathroom floor with silicone sealant around the edge of the linoleum and this seems to help somewhat. I can breathe better in there in any case. We've treated mould in two of the three bedrooms already with anti-mould paint but our room needs doing. We're making do with moisture traps at the moment.

So sorry this has happened to you! Is it an easy fix when you get someone in to do it?! Xxx

I don't think so as the mould is in the kitchen and runs along all the external walls. I also think we have it in the internal wall between the kitchen and living room as I've cleaned it off the skirting board and the board itself is spongy. We're the only house on the street that has the external drains. I also think they're a factor in the damp too. Xxx

Right okay that could be a reason behind it. I hope you get someone out soon xxx

Hi hun, ive been thru this senario with the local council over my sons bedroom having endless mouldy areas, so bad that his wardrobe became affected and it had to be thrown out along with his clothes- he has asthma which doesnt normally bother him but when we moved here i noticed him having chest infections Council did not help at all until I contacted local Environmental health- there was a pool of nasty water inbetween the bricks and linin bricks which was causing the wall and skirting board to mould and smell, after it was treated we were advised to stop keeping windows and the door closed all the time, to allow air all around the room daily, I bought a small humidifier that has proved this practice as it contains hardly any water nowadays and I do keep the window vent open and the window on the locking catch so that air is coming thru all day-the door is also open when he goes to work. We fibro warrior do tend to keep our homes tightly warm and avoid drafty sessions but in the long run it affects our property.. Hope this helps.

Thank you for this as I've contacted environmental health regarding flooding in our road and they put me in touch with the county council who only swept the road. I think it's something to do with the drains as the water pools in the corners. We've cleaned our gutters a couple of times and are going to put special brushes in them that prevent them from getting clogged with debris. My skin feels like it's on fire today.
