I'm after a bit of advice. I've been managing my pain symptoms with amitriptyline and meptid, but when I have a flare up these don't seem to help at all. I'm right in the middle of a flare right now (it hurts everywhere 😢), and have made an appointment to see the GP next week. Just wondering if there are any different meds I can request to try?
Hi there doll. Really sorry to hear that you are in a lot of pain right now. Flares can be a nightmare. I was in one last week, a really bad one.
Regarding your medication, most if us here aren't medical professionals, nor am I suggesting that all medications will act in the same way for one as they do another. You should also contact your doctor should you ha e any queries regarding medication and/or supplements.
The "standard" medications for fibro include as you have noted you take, Amitrytiline, Nortriptyline, and Duloxetine. Also licensed for fibro are Pregabalin and Gabapentin. It can some times take a while to get the right medications.
Painkillers can also help, but it depends on your pain levels, tolerance, and your doctors ultimate decision. For primary fibro, NSAIDs aren't generally that effective for fibro pain. If paracetamol and ibuprofen haven't worked, your doctor could consider prescribing you something stronger.
I'll post a link down below directing you to NHS Choices, explaining some of the treatment options for fibro regarding medication, and other treatments such as CBT and light exercise
It would probably be worth asking for a full review on pain relief. There are quite a number of meds but what suits one may not suit another. Is there any chance they can bring the appointment forward? Wish you well xx
Like Harper27 has mentioned, there are lots of meds licensed for fibro. Also try to get an emergency appointment as tulips has mentioned.
I'm not going to mention all the different meds for fibro as Harper has already done a great job with that bit it is worth discussing with your doctor about what is right for you. I personally take Tramadol, Pregabalin, Sertraline and Amitryptiline and that combo works quite well for me.
