My name is Viv i am 60 years old and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 15 years ago. As well as FM I have arthritis and a few other ailments. I find that most people are ignorant about FM because there are no visable signs on the outside.

Hi vivien03 Welcome to our wonderful forum, I'm sure you will love it and find it invaluable chatting to others who are going through the same as you, at different stages of their lives with fibromyalgia.
Well every time I think things are getting better & medical professionals are more clued up on it, someone goes and puts a spanner in the works & puts up a horror story post about how dreadful they have been treated & it's no different than 30 yrs ago. It definitely needs something to happen.
I have arthritis as well as fibro and nerve damage in my back & feet, so we are similar.
You really have come to the right place my friend and I look forward to chatting with you on the forum.
Please do go check out the mother site fmauk.org where you will find lots of useful information and links on fibro.
Peace, luv n light

It's a good idea to lock your posts to the community, so it's not open to the internet. If you look to right of screen you will see under "Pinned Posts" a link to simple instructions on how to lock it.

Hi vivien03 I'm new here and was diagnosed almost around the same time as you.. I also have arthritis and recently found out joint hypermobility syndrome which I would have had all my life, still awaiting an official dianosis though..
You are right about the ignorance of people in general though, just sorry you have had to experience that.. I hope you find it helpful on here and get the support you need.. Take care, look forward to seeing you around on here..
Hello @vivien03 and a warm welcome to our friendly fibro forum where you can find support, help, advice and understanding, along with a chuckle or two to lighten the day.
Fibro is one of those conditions when asked what's wrong, you say "it's fibromyalgia" and you are met with blank looks and "But you don't look ill"
It is very frustrating as many of our members can testify.
However, I hadn't heard of it until my diagnosis so I can relate to people not knowing. I do wish it was better publicised and that doctors would agree that it is a "proper" condition. Some do struggle fighting ignorant medics who dismiss them with a prescription of anti- depressants and told it is all in the mind. It is a great shame.
I see our lovely Janet28 has given you some great advice, so I wish you well and look forward to seeing you around the forum.
