DIFFICULTY GETTING INSURANCE, TRAVEL OR LIFE IN UK, HELP NEEDED HERE DUE TO MEDICATION AND CONDITION THE COMPANIES HAVE TORN CONDITION APART

Aches_n_Pains_All_Over profile image

I have a cheek asking advice/help I don't always log in depression took hold and everything died, anyone have problems getting insurance for travel & life, I used to be able to get travel insurance for around £10 now every symptom is taken on board and ups the premium i.e. the minute you mention depression and antidepressants the price shoots through the roof and the same with life insurance 1 question is have you ever suffered from tingling, numbness or pins & needles now if you answer yes to this bang up goes the premium because they think it's the start of MS, same with asthma and COPD then they ask how long have you suffered from bronchitis, they have taken the condition and used it like an umbrella and every spoke is a symptom of fibromyalgia and I cannot get companies to cover me on a decent amount of outgoing money most are end of life so I could have in all possibilities paid in more than I'd ever get back (well not me, the family), this is horrendous and making my depression worse as I don't want my family to be left to foot the bill and to take out a funeral plan they are looking for about £40.00 a month a bit steep when I don't know how long my P.I.P. will last. Anyone got any advice or how did you get insurance, the last 2 times I've went abroad I have not taken out insurance as some companies are dearer than the holiday, I'd be covered under the EHIC formerly (E111) that's only if I'm injured or need medication if I die then it goes all out of proportion to bring back the body. HELP PLEASE as I'm away again in October for a Hen do.

P.S. I'm 56

What companies have you tried - companies like Saga specialising in the over 50s? Have you tried going on any price comparison sites as this may be the best option for you. Usually you can just fill in the one form and then they will bring up all the prices offered by different insurance companies. Good luck x

Thank You for replying. Yes, I've tried Saga, my doctor suggested that one. I've been on the comparison sites but the minute you mention your condition they know you will probably be on an anti depressant medication whoosh up goes the premium. Tried Beagle Street they went through the health but up it comes again have you ever suffered from tingling, numbness or pins & needles, yes, they automatically think, MS but I don't know of a single person who has never had any of these conditions if you're reading this, do you? Seriously I think insurance companies need to be investigated, as an example, my Mums friend had an insurance policy that expired a number of years ago and she got a few grand in return, this was an endowment policy, (which they no longer do) so as that one expired she took out another and it was a 15 year policy so she could collect money when she retired, 15 years came and when she asked about cashing it in she was told it was only payable on death so all these £10.00 a month or whatever the amount was was wasted money, she'd be better off putting it in the bank it amounted to £1800.00. I'm finding now I can take out what they call a whole of life and ygou choose what age you want to stop paying so if you choose 85 and live longer you have lost all that money, it's so damned complicated and personally I think the ombudsmen should take a look and see if it's regulated properly. Sorry for long reply but I could gab for Britain if I'm feeling ok. LoL. (((HUGS)))

Yes I think banks and insurance companies make things complicated on purpose (small print is their secret weapon when it comes to complaints). I have spent nearly the last 20 yrs investigating mis-selling and errors made by insurance companies and banks (endowment policies, pensions, PPI) so I know only too well what they can get up to. However you can get some Over 50 or funeral plans with lower premiums than £40 (assuming you don't need a massively high cover amount). I know with LV you can get approx £4K cover for around £15 p/m. Funeral Plans are slightly different to Over 50 Plans as in they are taken out specifically to pay for funeral whereas over 50 plans you can use cash as you wish. They can have slightly different claim terms but there are no medical questions required for either. x

If you Google "Travel insurance companies who cover people with illnesses there are masses out there. Age UK deal with people over 50 and also Staysure but there are masses more. If you are still stuck a broker would be able to find you someone.x

Aches_n_Pains_All_Over .

If you can manage to get holiday insurance anywhere at £10 or so you will be extremely lucky.

I have RA,diabetes type 2 ,chronic kidney disease ,lymphoedema and fibro as not been confirmed so I dont declare it.I went to Cyprus 2 years ago and my insurance was approx £200 .

I got quotes from several companies and found staysure and insure and go among the best.

There Were cheaper ones but the cover they offered was not very good.

Some see it as an unneccessary expense and yes it can add a considerable cost to the overall holiday, but its really not something you should not consider.

It is something you pay for hoping that you will never need to use it,but if you should need it,it may make the difference between dead or alive.

Also consider anyone who may be on holiday with you.If something happened that rendered you in a coma ,how could they make a decision to authorise treatment for you knowing you dont have the insurance to cover your costs.Would you expect them to pay for it ?

Its not my place to tell you what to do but consider the consequences carefully.

Hope you can get good value insurance so you can enjoy your holiday.

Take care.

Crusee.

Hi Aches_n_Pains_All_Over wow love the artwork on your back ☺☺☺

I'm sorry I can't give you any advice about insurance apart from do a compare.com thingy lol like Ramjets has said, I'm with saga & it's through my bank, who recommended the cheapest one, I think they must search through a compare site. Mine is £20 a month & that would pay out £5,000 on death, so would pay for funeral & a good old send off lol I would say, that is probably about the best you would get at your age. I may be wrong but I don't think they take your health into consideration, maybe terminal illness but that's normal.

Hope this helps my friend xx

Your bank may be able to help you !!

Thank You for the comment on my art work on my back, I had the Fibro ribbon done but added a little flower in the middle, had the British heart foundation logo done in memory of my Dad and the breast cancer ribbon as my Mum is a survivor of the disease, I thought I’d do something meaningful and folk see them and ask about Fibro so in a way I’m letting folk know about the condition.

Got my life insurance sorted with an over 50’s all of life plan but they psy out the highest amount you have paid in think it’s British seniors over 50’s plan and another with one family so hopefully between the 2 my kids will have enough to pay my funeral

A similar posting about travel insurance was on healthunlocked late last year and I'm pretty sure it was on pain concern. There were lots of replies, so that's another option for you to check out. I do remember replying to it. And I also remember saying something along the lines of : avoid Saga and I wasn't the only one to say this.

Hi Aches_n_Pains_All_Over

I really am so truly sorry to read this and the insurance and financial markets are absolutely crazy at the moment? The only insurance I have managed to get without a medical or loads of medical questions was my over 50's plan! lol! :) I would search some of the comparison sites and see what they come up with? I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Hi I have just returned from Fuerteventura and got my Travel insurance including gadget covet for just under £20. I am a type 1 diabetic, fibro, Lupus, high blood pressure, cholesterol, CKD and depression and gastroparesis. It was a very good policy which thankfully I didn't need. It was with NoLimits. They are on the internet. I hope this helps and you find one that is suitable for you at a decent price. Have a great holiday x x
