Has anyone found that practicing Tai Chi helps alleviate any of the symptoms of Fibromyalgia?

Hello, I tried Tai chi year's ago with meditation and it was helpful for my anxiety but unfortunately I would not be able to practice it now because of my balance and the inability to raise my arm's and keep them in certain positions long. I have a lot of pain in shoulder and neck area. I can manage what they call chair yoga😄 take care. Chris

Hinwhat is chair yoga ? Besides the obvious! Are there specific courses or do you try the position from a chair ?

Hi Shadows-walker, yes as it implies yoga from a chair lol. You can Google it! I can only manage the easy stuff mostly the stretching bits 😃

Hi kilbymw

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I have pasted for you below a link to our mother site, FMA UK which hosts loads of useful Fibro information:

I have never personally undertaken any Tai Chi but I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck if you decide to give it a go, and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Not tried Tai Chi but yoga helps me. 15 minutes of simple stretches and breathing exercises makes a difference.

Don't know about fibromyalgia but Tai Chi is wonderful for flexibility, balance, strength, confidence, breathing. I could go on. It's one of the major things I miss now that my spine does not let me do the things I love. For older people it had proven benefits in preventing falls and maintaining bone strength and muscle. It's also good mentally as learning the moves requires muscle and brain memory .

Tried this while inpatient at holistic hospital, found it relaxing and easy way to stretch and exercise body. Unfortunately could not find similar class on 'outside.' Tried two thers but were very military versions stressing the self defence aspect and full of stances and repetition, impossible for me. Definitely give it a go.

I do gentle Yoga and that helps me, but I'm pretty hopeless at the balances now.

I found it difficult to maintain the positions as my limbs ached. Instead I prefer Qi Gong, which is gentler and helps energy levels.
