l can smell coconut put coconut oil over my body and hair everymorning. Perhaps someone Is making a coconut pie x
I know we all have out own beliefs (or not) but I believe that if I smell something specific, its someone I've lost, reminding me of something. Some people believe, when they see a robin, its a reincarnation of a loved one, others see a white feather and that's a sign. I had a few days of smelling Brut aftershave (I only knew my brother to wear it, when he was in his early 20's). Just perhaps, its someone trying to tell you that coconut is a miracle food, even if its just the oil. Most importantly though, if its just a smell and nothing painful, don't worry.
You don't have a fig tree in the garden do you? They smell of coconut.
I get either something like pork chops or burning rubber I kept asking my friend a couple of nights ago if he could smell it but nope it was just me for 3 nights in a row. Glad it's not just me can smell things that aren't there!
I could smell perfume deodorant about 4 in the morning hubby was in bed so he hadn't sprayed anything, it's coming up to my dad's birthday, and we have had unusual things happen in the past.
Glad you asked the question, I've been smelling allsorts too and wondering if its normal. I've smelt burning rubber and petrol and recently gas, which has me checking the cooker and central heating system obsessively, think maybe all the senses are effected with Fibro, its such a complex condition but always reassuring that you're not alone
Hello paue, I was wondering if you have a dry nose i.e very little nasal secretion? I have sjorgrens and have to "lubricate" eyes ears, nose and skin daily, I often smell burning that's not there, if I go outside on a cold day my nasal tissue is very sensitive to the elimants and it drips like mad and I have to rub my nostrels and cover them for a few minutes, its a bit like having a pollen allergy, the creaming down helps to stop it.
I think it's olfactory hallucinations due to sleep deprivation from FMS.
I have a very sensitive nose too and I often smell things from folk walking by my house (only a couple feet between house and pavement). I also get 'memory scents', for instance, my late aunt treated everything with TCP, and I occasionally get a whiff of it around my house, which immediately make me think of her.
I can smell cigarette smoke no-one around me smokes
It could be gorse which in the springtime smells of coconut. Do you have any in the garden?
Hello paue and welcome to our friendly fibro forum where you can find help, understanding advice and support. Have you seen our mother site fmauk.org ? Here you will find a wealth of information including guides and links.
I frequently smell struck matches, usually this is a warning of a migraine unfortunately.
Fibro seems to highten all of our senses and this si just one aspect.
It could be worse, it could be farmyard smells!
Looking forward to seeing you around the forum.
Kay
Fibro sufferers can be overly sensitive and so are hypersensitive to changes in temperature, light, noise, touch, and smell. It may be that you are particularly sensitive to the coconut aroma and have picked it up from something close by. x
I have to agree about fibromyalgia heightening our senses, I seem to be hyper sensitive to everything recently, smell in particular but also, sight, sound and touch. This is quite unpleasant at times. Knowing that I am not going mad, or more mad should I say, does help. I wouldn't worry about the coconut, I quite like that smell, it's body odour and stale cigarettes that really get to me. Take care x
I thought it was only me! I often smell smoke when there isn't any around. I do worry that one day something might be on fire and I will just ignore it because for me it's quite normal to smell smoke!
I guess it's just another odd symptom in a growing collection.
Gentle hugs x 🌸🌺
I get the smells of petrol, mushrooms and burning rubber. Not all at the same time. Sometimes when I get one of these smells its a signal of a migraine on it s way.
