I haven't noticed it causing any weight gain. But people have said it does.

Hi crazy-diamond

I am so genuinely sorry to read this and the British National Formulary provided by NICE lists weight gain with Gabapentin unfortunately as one of its side effects. If you are worried about the amount of weight that you are gaining it may be a thought to ask your doctor for a referral to a dietician? I am unsure if they would be able to do anything whilst you are still taking the drug but it is worth a try?

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Yes Gabapentin has done the same thing to me. As from today I'm starting new regime. It's harder when you're less mobile than you used to be. x

I have an increased appetite with my meds. I have joined a great slimming group and lost almost two stone. Unfortunately I've been having what I now know is a fibro flare since Christmas and have put some of the weight back on as I stopped walking to work and at the weekends with a friend. I've got another week before I.go.back to work so I'm going to try some short walks which I hope to slowly increase.

I'm also.an comfort eater which doesn't help.

Sooo sorry to hear you are struggling with the weight gain. The same thing happened to me when I started on them. I was taking 800mg per day for 12 months then my consultant said I should up them to 1600mg which I did and ended up gaining 3 stone. It was awful as I ended up going from 8stone to nearly 12stone (I'm 5ft2) so felt soooo big. How many mg are you taking per day? I am back down to 800mg per day now and lost 1.5stone of the nearly 4 I gained so far so there is hope. The biggest problem that came with the weight gain was the extra pain in my joints and muscles from the extra weight. If I'd have been told before I took the 1st tablet that I would gain a lot of weight I'd have refused them!!

Go back to your dr if you are unhappy with the meds xx

Take care Ali :-)

I have gone up 2 dress sizes and I dont take gabapentin. I am just putting it down yo fibro? Does anyone else think the same. I am not as active as I was but am careful how much I eat. It would be interesting to know if others have had my experience!

Gentle hugs M

I gained half a stone in six weeks, so I would say yes to the Gabapentin being the culprit. I stopped taking them but never lost the extra weight. :(

It is often prescribed as an appetite inhancer to those who have eating problems and it certainly does make you hungry.!

Unfortunately the extra weight puts extra strain on your limbs which causes you more pain, and so it goes on.

Gabapentin and Pregabelin are the worst drugs for this kind of thing. There an excellent meds but weight gain can go thrrouh roof.

I totally understand 😳it gets you so down...so you eat more...aagh

I'm sorry you're going through it too. Maybe do your own little exercises at home, I am now. ..even if it is five minutes worth. .that's a massive amount compared to yesterday 😊

Yes they make you put on wieght I've been on then for years and amytriptolin. My wieght has depressed me. Joined slimming world it's so hard to loose the wieght I've only managed 21lb in a year. My gp says that's good I don't feel it's enough.

Well it looks as if we're all in the same boat! I know when I've run out of meds ( silly girl) that I do need them. I am now trying to think positive and have signed up for a six week meditation course. I've always fancied doing this and who knows there maybe something more than pills! Good luck my fibro friends and take care xx
