I'm 20 years old and got diagnosed with this disease two days ago, for the past five years I have had appointment after appointment tor try to work out what was wrong with me and was even called 'a medical mystery' at one point.
MY first diagnosis was rheumatoid arthritis and then lupus and then fibromyalgia along side lupus. I am really confused by what the disease is, I've read loads online but none of it seems to suggests what causes the symptoms of the disease, why am I in pain all the time?
The diagnosis has really got me down, everyone keeps saying it's a good thing that I know whats wrong but it just does not feel like a positive.
Can anyone help and give me some more insight into it all?

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and ME when I was 20 years old and so I can completely empathise with you.
Would you mind me asking who diagnosed your Fibro? Was it a Rheumatologist?
I think the best thing that you can do is to learn as much as you possibly can about how your Fibromyalgia affects you.
Fibro is tailor made to each person and we suffer in different ways.
Have a look at our mother site. There is a lot of information about Fibro on there fmauk.org
Unfortunately it is not known exactly why Fibro sufferers have pain. Some have mild pain, some moderate and then others like me who have severe pain 24/7.
You don't say if you have been prescribed any medication for your pain?
If not, make an appointment to see your GP and ask what he/she recommends.
You may be surprised to know that most people react the way you are now when they get a diagnosis. It is a shock to the system after years of tests.
Take a big deep breath, and then take some time out (in your head) to come to terms with your diagnosis.
Then start learning what you can. We will all do our best to help you with any questions that you may have.
Thank you lu! That has helped me a lot! I've not been given any medication to help with the pain, just some tablets to help me sleep better but a lot of people have said they make them very drowsy so not sure how I'll get on with them!
Thank you so much. It is really nice to know when replies have helped.
It helps me to know how to help others.
The thing with medication is that it is very much trial and error. Everyone reacts very differently to medications so please don't be put off trying something.
It could be that it will help you enormously, but if not, you then try something else.
Patience is very important with all things Fibro related.
Which medication are you referring to that made people drowsy?
If you would like to ask me anything at all however big or small, please do.
I am not an expert, but I have lived with this horrible condition for 36 years.
I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I can see that BlueMermaid3 has given you some wonderful advice. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.
