Hi ViV_
i am not following a specific diet but I do try and cook my meals from scratch . This is to avoid highly processed food which tends to be full of preservatives and added sugar and salt? I taste salt easily thanks to dry mouth.
My primary aim is to lessen symptoms and maintain a healthy weight as I have limited mobility too.
I have reduced my meat consumption over a week and try to eat more high folate veg? Like cabbage and lentils. I try and choose fish; particularly salmon for omega 3 content. I am not being noble or perfectionist?
I fall off the wagon with sweets and fast food sometimes. (particularly at christmas). i have been told it might help reduce inflammation symptoms: by eating simple old fashioned cooking with fish frequently with plenty of veg. Hopefully , lessen brain fog? blueberries are great.
Particularly for overactive bladder/interstitial cystitis . Which can be a symptom of fibro. I was told by a consultant urologist to avoid caffeine, perservatives, artificial sweeteners, carbonated drinks, acid fruits and alcohol. Over loading with sugar doesn't help too. I found I can't eat ready meals? Too salty and full of preservatives. Once a year maybe ok? lol? Stress doesn't help either.
I had bought a radar key, and had regularly needed the loo every 10 mins. (sadly not exaggerating) Since I have been following this eating plan/ diet for many months I have become much less sensitive and can eat the forbidden stuff without disasters once in a while? I hope it will lessen pain too?
So it has really helped me. I try and eat good mood food too? Like turkey. I do feel a bit fed up/depressed . This is "normal" I have ra and sjogrens and fibro. It can cause bladder problems too? It is a syndrome that can affect different parts of the body
Sorry, I am having a rant. Poor sleep last night ?
Wishing you all the best with your healthy eating xx good luck
I am doing whole 30 diet. It takes it one step further from paleo and also cuts out completely dairy, alcohol, legumes and sugar. Also msg, sulphites, carnageen and unhealthy oils/fats. Advice in book by Melissa Hartwig 'It all starts with food' is to strip everything back to a clean healthy diet of protein, veg and healthy fats into 3 meals and max two pieces a fruit a day. Much more to it and worth reading the book. There's plenty of support forums on line and Facebook which help as to be honest it's good to understand emotions/sugar withdrawal symptoms and how to cope. It's based on the theory that if we heal our gut (our second brain) we can heal/reverse long term health problems. 30 days is the minimum and after that you introduce each food type to see if it is causing inflammation. There is an autoimmune version which eliminates nuts, eggs and nightshades too which I am half following given I've given up nightshades. Weight loss is secondary to this and you're not supposed to weigh in for 30 days but I have sneakily done so and have lost 16lb in 3 weeks. I must say my pain has subsided however suffering from me/CFS I haven't seen an energy surge.. hoping to do 60 days myself then start reintroduction slowly and then eliminate the foodstuffs which cause problems. I will stay gluten and dairy free as I know I am intolerant to them. It is a lot of cooking and reading labels as most convenience foods contain lots of sugar never mind additives. Why put sugar in bacon, smoked salmon? And bolognese ready sauces are horrific. Back to batch cooking on good days and pulling stuff out of the freezer on bad.. family just having to go with it as I'm not making different meals other than adding in rice or pasta for them. So far it's promising and just hope it leads on to better things. Anyone with problems with blood sugar problems/type 2 diabetes ... the results posted on Facebook forum are phenomenal and people are able to come of meds completely. Many with fibro/thyroid/hashis/ms doing it too. Hardest thing for me was planning so spent 6 weeks before I started batch cooking and getting my head round it. It all takes energy and when there's not a lot in the pot it is difficult to cope but one small step at a time I guess. Good luck 😉
Good for you, hope it continues to go well for you,
not eating potatoes as i find when i cut them out im not as sore may be conicidence or paranoia and reducing chocolate /sugar intake . fibro makes you become nuts on food i think always looking for a real answer to it. def difference without potatoes though interesting that the reply from wendolin doctor suggests diet without nightshade veggys which tatties are related to .
i also scan everthing i eat for additives etc . never eat ready meals unless they are m and s top of the range without any additives in them .
watch out for one range that has country chicken something or other its got nitrites in it . the rest of the range does not .i pointed it out to a member of staff and she said she thought they were removing all nitrites fro there foods . well not on that one
all ham bacon corned beef has nitrites in the preserving process . most sausage as well
wine and concentrated orange juices /fruit juices have sodium metabisulphites in it .my face puffs up and my hands swell if i drink any off this . so god knows what it doing to you innards . there is so much crap in our food i think the cumlulative amount if you buy ready prepped must be bad for you so try and do from scratch most of the time .
become a food additive freak read all labels .
i once bought some potato pot things for quick lunch while still at work
i had a headache every day . then my uncle said he had cut out sugr and had tried aspartame in his tea and it gave him headaches . i looked at the potato pots and yes they had aspartame in it .so i chucked the rest out and gave aspartame a body swerve ever since .
but its in all sort . ever muller yougurts lite have it .these are an instant headache . for me
so thats one additive think of all the others and what they can do to you add them all together and youve got a massive potential for problems i think .
possible younger people can metabolise better i dont know .but i find as ive got older that im more sensitive to the crap in our food .
i once bought mince from a butcher that looked remarkable red .my son who was about 4 had food allergys ,colourings being on of them .he came up n hives after eating the mince . i asked the butcher if he put red food colouring in the mince he admitted yes . so even starting from basics can be doggy without asking and reasearching .
ok i could write a book but must go . hope all this helps you to find a way forward . and make you think of what is going down your throat lol .
I'm doing Slimming World. I have the aspartame sensitivity so I don't drink most fizzy drinks (apart from fizzy water) I also don't eat Mullerlights or anything containing aspartame. I'm also sensitive to caffeine so I don't have caffeinated tea or coffee and I've been teetotal for nearly 2 years.
I'm severely restricted in what I can eat as I don't have a cooker and even if I did I'm not able to use it because of mental health problems. Doing okay though- lost 9.5lbs in two weeks.
Me too teamvickers I've lost 2st 12 and a half pounds - weigh in Saturday - hope I've lost one and a half pound - as this will give me my certificate for 3stone award this is since June last year. Keep up the good work. Take care 😘🤗
Hello and welcome to our friendly fibro forum where you can find advice, support, help and understanding.
Have you seen our Mother Site fmauk.org ? Here you will find a wealth of information, including links and guides on everything fibro.
I have not started dieting yet, although I do know I need too. However I have bought a juicer and experimenting with the different fruits and veg for a clean diet.

Hi, well I'm a vegetarian but not sure that helps lol. I find spinach to be good for me and smoothies in moderation e.g. one cup spinach, one ish cup of berries, one banana I get a slight bit more energy. Potassium is good and is in some of these things. Always check with the doctor!!!
I am a 'target member' of my local Slimming World. Joined initially to lose weight and take some pressure off my joints. I actually get less bloating / cramping now and enjoy eating healthy and loads of fresh fruit and veg.
Personally, I cook with fry light, don't usually eat margarine or butter (find I don't even need or miss it now) and drink unsweetened almond milk (SW 'allow' a litre per day of that milk, perfect for my fave rice pud).
No magic cure, by any means, but seems to work well for me.☺
Hi interesting thread....has anyone found a sugar free yogurt - that's not got some other sweetener in it??
Jx
Yeo Valley Natural Yoghurt and their Natural 0% Fat have no added sugar. There is some naturally occurring sugar that is in the milk.
I think they are delicious, but my OH isn't so keen!
I find GREAT benefit from fruits and veggies. I am thinking of going very close to vegan. Not sure I can take the plunge to go all the way, but raw fruits and veggies and even cooked have helped me tremendously.
I try to cut out sugar, I'm still not there. But now that things should be getting back to normal at the house soon, well for now, Tball sign ups were today. But hopefully soon, I can cut out all added sugar. I hate sugar, I love it but I hate it. I can feel when I have eaten too much the day before.
Anyways paleo, is probably the best if you still want meat. It concentrates on whole real natural food. If you can't grow it or kill it you shouldn't eat it. no processed foods no fake stuff or added stuff. Roasted meats and veggies are delicious and are paleo. Try mashed 1/2 potatoes 1/2 Cauliflower. Half and half is the most my husband will tolerate. He really doesn't like cauliflower. (So I add cheese and turkey bacon) But I don't make it often. Because he REALLY doesn't like cauliflower. But I got my sister to eat half a pan.
Try to think of food as fuel for your body and since we are sick or whatever is wrong with us, we have to be extra picky about how we are going to fuel our bodies.
Try looking up foods that help your issues and experiment with them. Enjoy your food, or you won't stick to it.
We love stir-fries, roasted veggies and meats, soups, salads, I juice which helps A LOT,. There is a lot out there, so good luck.
Take care ×××
Hi ViV_
I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance.
I am personally on a special diet at the moment as both my blood pressure and blood sugar have been elevated for a while. Most of the food is quite gross to be honest! I am more use to cream cakes and roast beef rather than boiled rice and fish.
I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
