Does anyone have any suggestions about painkillers that don't include codeine and don't have any bad side affects or do they all? I take co-codamol and they make me very constipated try to get away with paracetamol but at the moment the pains not good. :-(

So many of these painkillers have that awful side effect. Many of us have to take something like Movicol at the same time or have Dynarod on speed dial. It is difficult to suggest something as different painkillers can tend to target different pans. I take Pregablin for the hot, burning pains, Ibuprophen for inflammation (I also have osteo) and cocodamal for general pain relief.

Many (not me unfortunately as I have horrendous side effects) find a low dose antidepressant really helps especially with the lower back pain. Hopefully others can come up with some good suggestions.x

Hi Sharron13

Unfortunately we are not able to recommend medications to you as we are not medical professionals.

The other problem is that everyone experiences different side effects to the same medications.

For instance one drug may work really well for one person and potentionally the same drug could make another person extremely poorly.

As with all things Fibro related it is a matter of trial and error and see what works for you.

The best thing you can do is to have a word with your GP and ask them what they recommend. They should know what to try you on.

Or you could ask your GP to refer you to a Pain Management Clinic and see what they suggest.

I very much hope that you are able to find something that works for you.

Wishing you a peaceful weekend

Hi BlueMermaid3

I wasn't asking for any recommendations I was just curious if anyone knew of any so that I could ask my doctor about them but I fully understand what your saying :-)

Hi Sharron13

I also take Cocodamol and they make me quite lethargic but I also (on occasion) have been prescribed ''Nefopam'' and I personally do not have any side effects with them. It is difficult as individuals we all suffer different side effects to different medications?

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Hi, it's like you have already the answer about pain management medication, mostly it's trial and error as no person is the same, even if two people the same age and had exactly the same illness with exactly the same simptoms (excuse my spelling but have been in Spain for 27 years) they could have completely different side effects or even a med would work for one and not for the other.

I went through 8 types of opioids and antidepressants and other pain killers for over 2 years until they found the right one for me, but my situation is complicated (not just fibro) and I have to be on the strongest opioids that exist (Fentanyl, 80 times stronger than morphine and even 50 times stronger than heroine!!! ) and that is just to ease the pain enough so I can get out of bed sometime during the day !! Now it has been 10 years since they started giving me pain relief meds, all of which opioids and 8 that I have been on Fentanyl.

I don't think in your situation a GP would even offer you what I take but the point I wanted to make is that, you may need to go through many types of meds before they find the correct one for you like they had to with me.

Don't dispare as they will finally find something for you that will help and hopefully not cause you too many side effects.

So chin up and get to your GP asap for a referral for pain management as it could take over 3 months before they get to see you and you want to do it and sorted as soon as posible, I am saying 3 months cause I have been given a urgent referral 3 months ago and I phoned the other day and they still have no date for me to go, so expect delay..

Hope all gets sorted and you start to have less pain as it is very uncomfortable and difficult to live with.

HI

Try the WARM WATER THERAPY and APPLE CIDER VINEGER. For more information on these please Google. Remember they are not Chemical drugs, only with a little patience and persistence will you be able to see the results. . I personally dont take any Chemical Drugs because its all a waste of time and calling for more trouble. I go Natural. Take heart and God bless you.
