Currently on sick leave for bad flare of fibro, the worst ever to date. Saw my GP who gave me Tramadol to try, great for my pain but side effects outweighed the benefit. Finding combination of coedine and paracetmol helping better. Awaiting referral to CFS/ME specialist in January. Can any of you lovely people suggest anything else that can help in the meantime? Feeling pretty hopeless atm..

Hello I'm new here
Hi Jkelly75
Welcome to the forum
Have a look at our mother site, where you will find lots of interesting information about Fibromyalgia fmauk.org
Do you mind me asking what the main thing you are struggling with? Is it the pain or the fatigue or just both?
Tramadol can initially give a very drowsy side effect. However if you start on a low dose and take it regularly you will find that the side effects will wear off after a couple of weeks.
Are you taking CoCodamol? I know that you can buy this over the counter now, but you could ask your GP to prescribe you one that is slightly stronger.
Have you been through a lot of stress recently? This is a major cause of flares.
Unfortunately resting and pacing yourself is the best you can do for the fatigue, which is obviously going to be difficult for you as you are working.
I can truly empathise as I am going through an awful flare of ME at the moment.
Have you ever tried Amitryptyline? This is the medication that Rheumatologists tend to prescribe when diagnosing Fibromyalgia.
It would be worth you discussing this with your GP to see what s/he thinks.
Once again, this med can make you feel drowsy but if you take it 12 hours before you need to get up the next morning (I always recommend 6pm) this lessens that side effect.
Amitryptyline helps with low mood, sleep and pain and taken at a certain dosage also works as an antidepressant.
If you would like any help navigating the forum, please don't hesitate to ask and I will be happy to help you.
Wishing you less pain and more peace

Everyone is different with pain relief - and it's finding something to suit you. If maybe have another word eith your GP.
Have some soaks in the bath. I take gabapentin and codeine & paracetamol.
Naproxen I found helped but they took it off me because of high BP.
Hope your flare settles soon xx
Hello Jkelly, you will get used to the tramadol in time, if you, re just spaced out a bit that will wear off, you can take paracets with tramadol but wouldn,t advise anything else otherwise you will be off this planet!
