Had bloods taken a week or so ago and the doc has contacted me. The doc is concerned as my white cell count level is low. Has anybody else had this problem? Thank you 😆

Hi my friend

I am so genuinely sorry to read this and I have had this quite a few times. I take a regular daily maintenance dose of steroids for my COPD and it lowers my immune system and gives me constant viral infections. I have pasted you a *Google search below relating to this:

*A low white blood cell count usually is caused by: Viral infections that temporarily disrupt the work of bone marrow. Certain disorders present at birth (congenital) that involve diminished bone marrow function. ... Autoimmune disorders that destroy white blood cells or bone marrow cells.15 Jun 2005

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Yes I have low white cells and have done for 25 years. It's called neutropaenia and unless you get recurrent infections the medics tend to just call me back every time I get blood taken and point it out.

Did your doctor really tell you that you had a low white blood cell count and not tell you what that implied? I'm (almost) speechless! Some doctors still live in the past, thinking that your body is their concern and nothing to do with you. I would demand an answer - but then I'm probably a bit too assertive for my own good.

Hope you get some answers soon. Take care of yourself. Gentle hugs. Anna xx

I have had three blood tests done now for low platelets (not sure what that indicates) but not white blood cells. I think it usually indicate an infection like cystitis for example hope everything is fine.
