Saw the GP again with my painful shoulder all she really wanted to do was double my amitriptylin to 50mg wasn't keen so agreed to an extra 10 so 35mg tried it for a month just made me more drowsy and not getting any extra sleep. Also suggested Deep Tissue massage I had 2 sessions (£30 each) second session left me very bruised and no relief. Need to make appointment to see go again but feel like it will be a waste of time. What to do next ??

Hay babyowl
Need to take amitriptyline at the right time to get best effect, about 2-3 hours before you go to bed, that should help prevent drowsiness the next morning. Suggest you try at your original dose first, timing is everything with our meds. Do you take Gabapentin or similar, these are good pain killers and can be adjusted as you need ?
I have had acupuncture twice now, first 5yrs ago for inflamed Illiotabial nerve down left leg, felt like someone just switched it off ! Second this year to release pain from prolapsed disc. As this is more complicated, still got benefit from two sessions. First centralised pain to front thigh muscle instead of all round, second phased out shin bone pain completely.
Had deep tissue massage from physio, not really suitable for our problems, and as you found, can make things worse. Would suggest you swop next session for acupuncture, more likely to help.
Fingers crossed for you, Hayesider. Xx
Thanks for your advice I take my amitriptyline at 6pm every evening but find if I don't get any/enough sleep still feel awful in the mornings. Only taking ibruprofen/paracetamol for the pain and as been taking them 16 +yrs for other medical reasons no longer touch the pain GP not keen on giving me anything else. Masseur did suggest acupunction. Sending you gentle hugs xx
I had a deep tissue massage, paid £40 for it and it did nothing only make me feel worse. The guy was more interested in curing my headaches that my backache
I think Hayesider has a good point about the meds
Thanks for reply, had various blood tests but no answers been back and forth just want to keep adding more mg of amitriptyline ... Sending gentle hugs xx
Maybe you need a change of Dr, is that possible. Some Dr's are better than others at understanding fibro
Sending some gentle hugs back at you
Have they ruled out Frozen Shoulder etc. Maybe Ask for referral to see a Specialist. Seems lot's of tests try tick Meds tick. Had all this when eventually just delayed a proper diagnosis. Obviously/ All of us are different. But I had allot of delay when they heard the Fibro Diagnosis!!
Wishing You All The Best Jan. XXX
Hi there
What time were you taking your Amitryptyline? I was told to take it 12 hours before I wanted to get up the next day so took it at around 6pm.
50 mg may seem like a high dose, but it's not.
I think your best bet would be to ask your GP for a referral for Physio. You may have a bit of a wait but I think it would be worthwhile.
Physios can do steroid injections if they feel it would help.
Try making a sling out of a scarf (or even buy one) and try resting your arm and see if that helps.
Let us know how you get on.
Wishing you less pain and more peace

Hi babyowl
I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are suffering and struggling and I sincerely hope that your pain eases soon for you. It may be handy to pop in to your local walk in centre and tell them about your shoulder? You may find a doctor that is more interested? And they can offer you referrals if they feel the need?
I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
