I'm not well today

I know I have to work tonight and again I'm panicking. I try to do other distractions and breathing techniques, and nothing simply works. I am so tempted to call in sick. But I know I only need to work 4 more shifts to be able to qualify for sick leave. I'm trying so hard to make it there. Why does everything seem so much harder right now. I feel like I am pulling a mountain with my teeth.

Hello looking4me

It does sound as though as well as not being well you are panicking about going into work.

I know how this feels and it's absolutely horrible.

Have you ever tried anything like Quiet Life or Bach Rescue Remedy? I use both of them and they help me enormously.

It may be that it is psychological but they work, which is the main thing.

You can buy the Bach Rescue Remedy in a spray. If I feel an anxiety attack coming on I use my spray and keep it in my handbag.

Is there something you could do to occupy yourself until your shift comes around?

If you went into work and had to come home again, would that affect your sick pay? Maybe if you think along the lines that you will go in, but if you just can't hack it you'll have to go home.

I know that isn't thinking very positively but it is one way of thinking about it.

Wishing you much peace

Lu xx

I hope you manage to reach your goal.

Oh I do feel for you honey, been there so many times over the years. I think Lu has already waved her wand & given the best idea & maybe go & think you can leave if you can't manage it. I remember doing that before & once I had got there I actually felt better. I think a lot of it is stress in case you can't cope. I hope you get through it & hope you soon feel well..

Hope you managed to do your shift it us horrible when you are so ill that you start to dread the thought of even going into work. Hope you can get enough shifts under your belt to get sick pay.x

Hi looking4me I hope how I put this comes across the right way (between brain farts, fibro and always getting muddled up) and not to convoluted. I am 50 and have suffered all my life with anxiety/panic issues and all that comes along with it, of which I am sure you are well aware of all of them. The NHS is now using the Mindfulness therapy rather than the distraction methods. I am going on the assumption that you have not had any CBT so apologies if you have had it already. Mindfulness is about trying to cope with what condition you have and how to live with it. If you have Internet access there are some videos on YouTube. The book that I found helpful was The Happiness Trap by Dr Russ Harris. He is a Doctor who has anxiety and for me that helped and comes across in his writing. Please do not give up. You may never be free of this curse but there is ways of living with it before it gets out of control. I believe if I had had this treatment when I was younger, or before it had ruined my life, I wouldn't be in the mess I am now. Good luck x

Unfortunately or fortunately we never know how tough we are until being tough is the only thing left.

Some people have had no choice at several points in their life so they take a big bite hold on your mountain and hang on like a terrier or they fail, some people are lucky and rarely or never face these things and im very pleased for them. The answer for you is you dig deeper and deeper into your resources and you find YOUR way to cope.

Bless you.

I will try all the interventions you have suggested. I am probably suffering from some PTSD from my work. I have been through and seen a lot. It's just become harder to manage over the years. When you don't feel well physically everything gets harder as well. I have to stay strong for my family too. I know how much I am depended on. I'm really looking forward to reevaluating my life and seeing which path is best for me to go. When I can start on sick leave I will have more time to look after myself again and make some choices.

Thank you all!
