Gabepentin has been great for the pain for me! I notice if I don't take it. It won't take away the pain but will dull it (might be different for you) Only side effect I have is weight gain. Good luck, Hope it is suitable for you! 😀

Thank you I should find out tomorrow if my GP has a prescription for me

Are you newly diagnosed? Normally they will start you off on lower dose then raise if need be! Whatever medicine they prescription all will have side effects but not all of them apply to you! 😀

So did you doctor prescribe it?

The pain clinic ain't even written to then now she off until mid oct

Gabapeptin is Licra and is the cheaper version of it , I think you will find that most of the members on this site who are on Licra prebailin is the prefers one

I take Gabapenton 700mg, but i also use it for my back back is damaged. For me it got rid of the touch sensitive part of fibro which could drive me n

mad, I was lucky and didnt gain weight which is possible. The main thing i get is tinnitus, it can be really irritating but it did settle down after a while and is really not as notiveable now

in reply toailsamary

Iv got horrible Tinatass, did you get Tinatass after taking your pills Iv always wonderd if it's the drugs that are causing it 700 mg that's high I take 150 mg I know it helps as when I don't I get all my pain back 😎

ailsamary profile image
ailsamary in reply to

yes it is definitly caused by the medication. my back pain is due to damaged nerves although it is a typical fibro pain spot as well. i am near the top dose for gabapentin, i think it is 800mg 3 times a day

in reply toailsamary

Wow thats a lot

I take Gabapentin 600 mg twice a day and 900 at night, my family always know if I have a slightly higher dose when in bad pain as I get hyper in the morning. I say it is just the old me surfacing after a better nights sleep ( I do notice I talk and think a bit fast )

in reply toellj

Yea me too I do feel a bit doo lally 😎

I've been taking this for years for diabetic neuropathy in my feet. I can't say I've noticed any side effects though. I was started on the lowest does and this was very gradually increased. Although it was originally started for pain in my feet, as shoulder pain became more severe my GP increased to help with pain in this area. I now take 3 x 300mg twice a day plus 4 x 300mg at night. It doesn't agree with everyone but if you are prescribed it then it's worth a try.

Hi other than weight gain plus severe pains if you forget or stop gabapentin suddenly. I have tried a few different medications for my fibro and through time gabapentin will stop working for me but until then it takes the edge of the pain which makes it bearable but in severe flare up nothing touches the pain.

Please slowly build up the dose until you find it right for you /don't start to high dosage it leaves you no room to play with

Best of luck I hope you find it works for you.

Hi, I am now on 1500 mg a day, it helps the pain a bit but with all the other conditions I have its difficult to say which pain is from what, they do make you more hungry so in turn you can put weight on. Hope they work for you.

Hi. Been on Gabapentin a little while now. I'm sure I am sleeping better on it and have managed to cut down on Zapain! However, I am putting on a little weight but consider that a small price to pay. Good luck.

I was on it. Weight gain is big. Also eye sight problems are the two that I had

I've been on gabapentin for about a year now. I take 4 x 300 mg, but I was started off on one tablet for a few days, then slowly built up. I've found it has really helped (I was very skeptical at first) but it took a few weeks to work so you have to give it chance. I have tried an experiment to see if it really works and came off them for a day or two but I ended up in bed with dreadful pain, tingling and could barely walk, so yes, it does work. As someone has already said, it kind of 'numbs' the pain. It also helps me sleep. Side effects? I think there are side effects with every medication/drug, even those as innocuous as paracetomol and aspirin. I've found the first few months I put on weight but I think it made me feel hungry. But I've sorted that out now (hopefully). It also can make me feel a bit 'drunk', but that could be fibro fogginess! Good luck and let us know how you go on.

I will let you know as soon as I know I am waiting for a phone call from the pain clinic about the letter that was meant to be sent but fingers crossed

remeber it can take a few weeks to get into your system, so dont expect a sudden change

No side effects that I have noticed, been taking for over a year. I was given them for migraines but better for fibro. Good luck

I was recently given this by my gp, 3 days in I was violently sick in work. I've stopped for a couple of days and will try again to see if it was the tablets or just a bug. I'm hoping they don't make me feel even more tired!

hi... I'm new to this site. I've been on gabapentin for 4 years.. I had some of the side affects for about 6 weeks and then my body started to except it. I am now on 900mg 3x a day. but now i'm also on wellbutrin and cymbalta, plus a whole host of other meds... what fun it is..

I started on gabapetin in august, slow build up and I been in contact with my doctor as still on tramadol but with the tramadol being decreased to 1 a day and now on 2x300mg 3 times a day from yesterday, the pain has been worse the last couple of weeks, doing anything wears me out but sleeping is 3 hours if I'm lucky so really up the shoot. Have noticed getting more hungry though. Moving around has gotten harder too and I'm trying to avoid doing it because of the pain I get in back, legs and hips, feel like an old woman of 150, lol

I have really bad hip pain to the point my legs give way when I am walking I now use crutches for extra support
