Hi, my name is Sue as you may have gathered from above, and I am sixty. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in May of this year, and I was relieved after five year's of going to my doctor and being told my pain was due to depression. On visiting a specialist who sat and listened to all my problem's he told me I had fibromyalgia. I have most of my pain in my feet and my neck, oh and my hand's and elbow's and knee's, and my face. At the moment I am having trouble with my right knee, and it has been since I did a three mile walk for cancer research in July. I didn't want to back out even though my feet were bad at the time. I was dragged round by my chihuahua dog, Ruby who entered with me, and I have suffered with my knee ever since. I was almost crying and crawling at the end but Ruby was happy to keep going. I have tried painkiller's but they don't work, and I have have used heat pad's and ice pack's but neither have eased the pain. Please can anyone give me any help with what to try next. Oh, Ruby raised £440.00 for cancer research, I was very proud of her.

As aud01 said, welcome to the site, it should be welcome to the best site ever for sufferers of our friend (?) Fibro. Every one is welcome, we all understand how each other hurts, and there is lots of support and comfort shared around.

When first diagnosed, I had been wearing sport support tubes on my right arm, hand supports on mainly right hand, and long turbo grip on my knees. I found that just compressing the arm slightly, reduced the pain level in elbow and wrist quite a lot. I got these on line, and wore them for about five years until I managed to get our friend under my control not his for a while.

You need to list each area and how you suffer at that point, then give the list to your GP and discuss with them how you can get relief. They are there to help, not just farm you off with another tablet. We can help with suggestions, but few are medically trained, so we only speak from our experience.

Fingers crossed you get better support, Hayesider xx

Good-morning Hayesider, thank you for a warm welcome, I really appreciate your advice. I haven't had much help from my own doctor, but he maybe doesn't know much about fibro as he has never suggested in five year's that fibro could be my problem. I shall make an appointment and see how it goe's. X

Hi nice to meet you :) well done on your walk for cancer, sorry it has made your pain worst tho :( how cute is Ruby :) you should def go,back to your GP though, don't feel like you are wasting their time, all you need to think about is you and making sure you get the best help and treatment possible no matter how many times you have to visit your GP, that is the job they get paid a lot of money for! Take care of yourself and welcome xx

Hi Kingsusyq & Ruby

I sincerely hope that you are both feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcoem to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I have pasted you a link below to our mother site, FMA UK which hosts loads of useful Fibro information:

fmauk.org/

I can genuinely imagine that you were so relieved to finally get a firm diagnosis after five years of suffering and struggling my friend. I am so sincerely sorry to read of how much your charity walk took out of you but you both did so well to raise to £440.00, well done!

I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Thank you very much Ken for such a warm and friendly welcome. I am really pleased I joined this friendly club. I haven't much experience with computer's so I alway's need my daughter to help me, and it was my daughter who suggested I join. As I don't know anyone with fibromyalgia, and I didn't know about it myself until I saw the specialist, it was a relief to finally know the pain i have had for the last five year's wasn't just my imagination. I was suffering with depression and I was beginning to think it must have all been in my head, as after so many blood test's saying it wasn't arthritis, and my dr. saying he couldn't find anything wrong I was at my lowest. I feel better for knowing I can get advice from all these lovely member's, thank you. Regard's Sue.

Hello and welcome to the gang. I have trouble with my knees, especially the right one.

Kingsusyq in reply toKitten-kat23

Hi, thank you for the welcome to the gang, I really appreciate that. Can I ask you what you do when your knee is painful, as I have found painkillers don't help or cream's?. Any help would be good.

Kitten-kat23 profile image
Kitten-kat23 in reply toKingsusyq

I wear a knee brace, I also use a homeopathic cream for arthritis and joint, muscle pain, I was given by the hospital for integrated medicine in London. I was sent there by my doctor as I am very sensitive to secular medication. I find it works for me. I find keeping them warm also has a soothing effect, as well as having a bath when I can be assisted getting in and out. Apart from that it's a case of grin and bear it. My knees can give way at anytime and without warning.

Kingsusyq profile image
Kingsusyq in reply toKitten-kat23

Hi, I will try the heat, and get my hubby to help in in the bath. I alway's have a shower because I can't get in the bath, and my hubby work's away. The last time I got in the bath I struggled to sit down, and when it came to getting out I had to try and turn onto my knee's but I just couldn't stand the pain. So I sat thinking of how I was going to get out, so I kept trying until I was swimming in tears. I had to wait until my daughter got home and I had to ask her to help me. I think that must be one of my most embarrassing moment's, and it wasn't much fun for my poor daughter. My daughter said she wasn't expecting to do that until I was a very old lady, but I can't say it was on my list of thing's to do, but hey ho we had a good laugh about it over a nice cup of tea. Thank you.

I am lucky, I have a carer who is also my daughter in law. I am waiting to see if I can get a shower installed by my council.

My daughter in law is on a 3 week holiday, so I will have to sort something else out.

Kingsusyq profile image
Kingsusyq in reply toKitten-kat23

Good morning, I hope you get a shower, it will be easier for you. My mum had a shower fitted by the council and it had a seat in it, so she would just sit in it and let the water run over her shoulders and down her back, and she said it did ease her pain when it was really bad. It is sad when you have to find someone to cover while your daughter in law is away. I hope you manage to sort it out.

Hi caninecrazy, I am so glad I found this site, well I didn't my daughter did, but I have felt so welcome by everyone. I don't do face book because I wouldn't know how to because I am hopeless on the computer, so I was worried about joining in case I did something wrong. So far I am doing ok and it is so nice to have people who know how you feel. I love the photo of your dog, what breed is he or she? the photo is so small I can't tell only that it look's very sweet. 🤔X

Kingsusyq profile image
Kingsusyq in reply tocaninecrazy

I thought he looked like a chihuahua, but it is hard to tell with the picture being small, but he has a really sweet face. My Ruby is a smooth hair, and she is three. My husband bought me a Yorkshire terrier as a wedding present back in 1976 when we tied the knot, but she was very small and just didn't seem to have any energy so we took her to the vet's because we knew she would need her inoculation's. My husband had bought her from a big pet shop and they told him she was 12 week's old, but I thought she was maybe younger because she was so small. When the vet saw her he told us she was much older but under nourished, and she was not a well dog and we should take her back to the shop and get our money back. How could we do that, and I was shocked that the vet would say that. We took her home and nursed her as best we could but she only lived for a week. I was so upset because I had loved her and I had never felt such a failure. We never had a pet since we found Ruby, but we got her from the breeder this time were we could see the mum and dad. She has made such a difference to our lives.😊😊😊😊

caninecrazy profile image
caninecrazy in reply toKingsusyq

that's so sad, you shouldn't feel a failure as you did your best for her. sadly its the breeders fault as they do it for money & not the health & well being of the pups. its hard telling genuine breeders from the dodgy ones . I would always want a canine companion in my life as they give unconditional love & loyalty x

Hi.... that's really kind spirited and brave of you to battle through your own pain and suffering and for such a worth while cause, well done you😊 I have a similar problem with my knee unfortunately dr said it's part of fybro and other than painkillers there is nothing else to be done hope you get more help than me. Take care 🐧

Kingsusyq profile image
Kingsusyq in reply toGeorge16

Hi George16, do I call you George16 or just George. Thank you so much for your compliment, but I don't think I could have finished it without my dog Ruby pulling me round. I did it last year with the young girl's at the hair salon I help out at on a Friday, and when we had finished they said they would all do it next year. Well when it came to signing up this year I was away on holiday so I signed up, only to get back and be told none of them could do it this year. So I thought I would take Ruby with me and she loved it, I was nearly on my knee's. I felt proud of myself for doing it because my feet were really bad and my husband said I shouldn't do it, but I had £440.00 from lot's of people and I didn't want to let them down, or feel like a failure. My feet and my knee are still bad, so I am in no hurry to deside if I am going to sign up for next year, but I hope so. Hey, George16, I bet your thinking, typical woman, she goes on and on and on, sorry about that. 😊

Hi Sue, well done on completing the walk to raise funds for cancer research! You did so well! I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2010 and like you, as well as pain in all different places, I am having trouble with my right knee! I find using a tens machine on my legs helps with restless leg syndrome, but I honestly can't say that it gives me relief in the knee. I've had x-rays done, and osteo arthritis seems to be the cause. Like you, I've tried heat and cold pads, but have found I get more relief from elevating the leg on a footstool, with a cushion on it under my knee. (That and painkillers). My knee seemed to get a lot worse after a fall I had at home earlier in the year. It just seemed to give way and down I went like a skittle! :) I was referred for physio, and was advised to use an exercise to strengthen my legs. Little Ruby is gorgeous! I have a little Yorkshire Terrier, William, who is a source of constant joy to me! It may be helpful if you see your G.P. again and explain just how bad the pain in your knee is, and hopefully he can help to find a way to relieve the pain.

Very best wishes to you, Steph

Hi, thank you for your tip's, I shall try anything once as they say. My knee got a lot worse after a fall that took place on Christmas Day last year. We have a Kitchen floor that is made up of very tiny stones, ( it look's nicer than it sound's), and my husband had given me a lovely pair of shoes which I was wearing. I had walked into the kitchen to make a drink and I turned with a bottle and some how slipped. I fell forward and landed on my knee and trying to save the bottle I landed and hurt my wrist. I am a bit of a baby because I was crying as if my leg had dropped of. It was absolutely agony and pouring with blood because of the floor I had taken all the skin off. I couldn't walk on it for three day's it was so painful. It got me out of cooking the Christmas lunch, my husband and daughter cooked while I sat feeling sorry for myself. I still have a mark on my knee which looke's like a bruise.I didn't know that fibromyalgia sufferer's were more sensertive to pain, which explained why it felt so bad. Your picture of William look's very sweet, they are such a delight aren't they. Ruby is our baby, she goes every where with us and she is no bother. It was my sixtieth birthday last week so my husband took me out for a meal. It was a lovely meal, but you husband never stopped talking about Ruby, and he couldn't get home fast enough because she would be upset at being left behind. I think he would quite happily have sent me on my own so he could stay home with Ruby. 😃😃😃

SilentStranger profile image
SilentStranger in reply toKingsusyq

William is definitely our baby too! He goes everywhere with us! Belated Happy Birthday for last week! When i fell, I was walking from the bedroom into an inner hallway, and it almost seemed like slow motion - just tipping over!!! I honestly thought I'd broken something! The bruising was quite something, lovely shades of blue developed! I think the worst thing for me was the knock to my confidence. I am 59. Next year, my sister and brother in law are coming from New Zealand, as part of a big tour they are doing. The four of us are going over to Ireland for a fortnights' holiday, to a holiday cottage somewhere, and William will be coming along too. As their children are all adults now, they will be back home in NZ. :)

Kingsusyq profile image
Kingsusyq in reply toSilentStranger

That will be lovely for you to spend time with your sister, is it long since you last saw her?. There is some beautiful scenery in Ireland isn't there, I have only seen it on the t v but it alway's look's stunning. I bet William will have the time of his life with lot's of tree's and grass to runaround on, and two extra playmates to fuss over. We usually hire a cottage that welcome dog's, which is good that some do because if Ruby couldn't go, my husband wouldn't go. It's really funny because we have never been keen on pet's, but my therapist at the time said it might help me to have something that would give me a feeling of being needed. I didn't think I would be able to look after a dog properly, plus I thought my husband will only moan if it barked all the time, but luckily she never bark's, don't know why. She also follow's my husband everywhere and loves him to cuddle her,and I think he like's that. So luckily we are all happy and Ruby just made thing's even better. Sorry if I have gone on to long, that's the thing I'm alway's worried about, boring people to death. I will shut up now.😄😄😄

I do miss my sister so much! I was stunned when she and her family emigrated to New Zealand about 11 years ago. She is my only living relative, and it felt like the bottom had fallen out of my world. We last saw them in May 2014, when my brother in law organised everything so that my hubby and I could fly out there to spend 3 weeks with them. It was the trip of a lifetime for us, and something which we had never thought we'd ever do. We've never been to Ireland, only seen some of the countryside there on the tv. My brother in law comes from Cork, and while they lived in the UK used to holiday in Ireland several times, as his parents were still alive at that time. We had never planned on having another dog after we lost our last little ones, but we had heard that Williams' owner was looking to rehome him quite urgently as his parents and sister were being very aggressive to him. So, when he was 7 months old, we got him. Since the first moment I saw him, I fell in love, and it has remained like that! Back in January 2010 I collapsed with a brain aneurysm, and after surgery, I don't know how we would have managed without our little William! He was, and still is, my constant companion. I do regret that I'm not as active as I would wish, because I had great plans to walk all over the place with him. However, I got a mobility scooter to enable me to still be able to walk him, and William is quite happy to trot along beside me, and when tired he hops up onto the footplate and rides along between my feet! Please don't say you worry about boring anyone - you certainly don't! It's lovely to have "met" you on here! I joined this site some time ago, and found all the posts so inspiring, and there is so much support from everyone.

I do hope you have lot's of fun while your sister is with you, I think William was and is curtainly your rock. It's so nice when your having a really bad day and feeling pain everywhere, but you can have a cuddle from your little companion, and it makes you smile. I bet William loves running along side of you, and having a lift now and then when his little leg's get (tiered) . That doesn't look right to me, but I hope you know what I mean. My spelling alway's let me down at school, but it has improved a little. 🤔

Kingsusyq Hi, Im Lyzzie, everthing you've said sounds very familiar, the pain does get horrendous at times and you cant explain it to people because they cant see it they either dont understand or simply dont want to. Love the dog, If I put that on Buggles he would die of shame, hes a boy and would be smart enough to know I was being silly with him. Your dog looks really sweet though.

You've pushed yourself too hard, Ive found that it does settle again but it takes time, and yes, I have sat and cried over the pain. I have a well meaning friend who is convinced if I did enough walking I would soon get better and you cant tell her any different. She has no idea that when i go out with her and do try to walk more, I pay for it, big time. So you need to plan what you do, and for how long. Well done on the fund raising, thats brilliant, typical though, its often people with health problems that turn out for others in the same if slightly different boat!. Really hope you feel better soon. Lyzzie x [and the bug]

Kingsusyq profile image
Kingsusyq in reply tolyzzie

Hi Lyzzie,I don't dress Ruby usually but everyone had to wear pink so I got Ruby the pink harness so I had somewhere to pin her number. Your so right about people saying, just try walking more and, push yourself, if only it was that easy. I think people just think it's laziness, but we know different don't we. 🐼

lyzzie profile image
lyzzie in reply toKingsusyq

Kingsusyq tell me about it. I've just washed my hair and my elbows killing me now and will for a few hours, explain that to someone that doesnt experience the fibro first hand. I think Ruby looks cute actually, Id love to see bugs in a tutu he would look sweet, but he would never forgive me! Lyzzie x

Kingsusyq profile image
Kingsusyq

Hi Lyzzie, I get a lot of pain in my elbow's. It seem's really strange that in the week that I have been a member, I have recognised so many of the pain's that people write about are pain's I have suffered with for the last five year's. Yet each time I went to two different Drs, and told them about these pain's, they made no connection with fibro. So now I'm seeing these post's and realising I'm not imagining them however silly they sound to other people. So can I ask you Lyzzie if you have heard if this is due to fibro. I get a pain in my head behind my left ear and alway's in the same place, but it feel's as if someone is prodding me with an electric wire. Also it sometimes go 'so into my ear and round my jaw. I just wondered if you have come across anyone else describe it while you have been a member.🐼X

Kingsusyq profile image
Kingsusyq

Hi nuttyjoon58, thank you for your welcome it's much appreciated . I think my knee problem was due to to much walking, and pushing myself to much. I have been putting heat on my knee and gently massaging it with warm oil, also soaking in a warm bath and it has got much better. My doctor doesn't seem to be interested, as he didn't even look at me when I went to see him about the meds. the specialist had requested him to prescribe for me, he just looked at his computer all the time I was sat there. I don't think I shall be doing the walk next year as it was to much for me, so I shall have to think of something else to do.🐼😊
