Feeling Low

I had my PIP assessment today, felt suicidal and a scrounger when I had finished it. During the assessment I felt as though I had to prove everything that I answered to and was very nervous throughout. I felt like walking out at the beginning as the health assessor had no empathy for my PTSD and claustaphobia, I thought that I was going to pass out with the torment of the bars at the windows. I felt very fatigued but dares not ask for a break as she told me that she was in a hurry. Towards the end I felt that she did begin to understand my Fibromyalgia, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Arthritis and other health problems, but it was a big struggle.... I totally feel depressed now and am trying to pull my self out of this. The assessor really pulled my ability to drive a manual car with support from someone sitting at the side of me. I have to drive as I can not go on busses or use taxis due to my fears, and cannot walk far without having severe discomfort and fatigue. Has anyone else felt this way after an assessment?

yes I felt exactly the same - will not put myself through it anymore - felt degraded, exhausted , and a liar , and low for weeks afterwards - can't go through that again - my OH and I decided to manage on our own - that way I don't get stressed, ill and I just am a lot more positive - I wish you luck - but its not for me - Neese. x

I feel the same way but have no one to financially help me at the moment. I wish I did so that I hadn't had to go through this. I just hope that ican find a way to help myself.

Hi mandip

There is help available out there that you don't have to pay for.

There are various charities that will help you. Your best bet is to Google for a Disability Advocate that covers your area.

You don't need to do this alone.

You can also ask our benefits advisor Janet for help too. I will pop back and give you a link for all of her contact details at the end of my messsge.

Are you still feeling suicidal or has that passed now? Please don't be offended but I have given you the number of the Samaritans. It may just help you to have a chat with them:

The Samaritans UK

Telephone: 116 123 (UK)

I know it made me feel very suicidal and was a scary experience.

Yes I felt that as well, felt like I was been interrogated, terrible experience. I just hope that things change in the future so that I and others don't have to go through that trauma again.

During our assessments I had a wonderful assessor first time who believed everything I told her but when reassessed I felt as though she thought I was a liar. My husband was assessed and all she concentrated on was his physical problems that he was managing and not the mental ones that had landed him there in the first place. We had to go to two tribunals but he was awarded 18 points in the end rather than the 0 given by the assessor.

I managed to get my DLA on a mandatory reconsideration as they had made a glaring error by saying they had based a decision on a document they hadn't got!

I am in the process of applying for PIP and honestly don't expect to get it because if the way they now have the descriptors. Sometimes when we think things gave gone pearshaped it can be just the opposite so fingers and everything crossed for you. If you are turned down ask for a copy if the report as it is amazing the errors you might find. Do let us know how you get on. Nothing you can do for th time being so try and put ir behind you. Take care.x
