Fibromyalgia and nerve pain

Hi all. Does anyone get nerve pain on one side of the body. Sometimes it extends from the fingers all the way to the shoulder to neck till the ear? Even my chest area surface aches It is now on my foot too esp the big toe even wearing closed shoes is painful 😢😢😢And what natural remedies are there for this nerve pain?

Yes, all the time. I don't know of any natural remedies, I'm sorry to say.

I'd go see your dr and see what they say.

I use my hand massager, even though it really hurts. I also use Volterol gel and hot water bottles too.

Hope you get some help.

Yes, I get a lot of nerve pain. Biofreeze spray works to a certain extent. It works more so with the deep aches.

I buy mine from Amazon. You can buy it in various sizes.

It smells of menthol. My husband says that it's like listerine for the eyes !

I hope you find some relief.

Hi. Yes i have got a similar pain at the moment. My right heel aches so much i am limping everywhere, and the pain is all the way up my leg, my right arm and hand. It's horrible and i sympathise. Malwimmy, i like the sound of the biofreeze xx

I don't know if it's anything like Deep Freeze which you can get in a gel and a spray.

I use it in conjunction with my meds. I find I don't particularly want extra heat ie hot water bottles, but something cold.

You can get it in Boots and most chemists.

Hi Chep_

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are suffering and struggling in this way, and I sincerely hope that you can find some relief to your nerve pain. I have a compressed sciatic nerve and it gives me chronic pain sometimes. However, I have not personally tried natural remedies for this.

I have pasted you a couple of ideas form the *WebMD cache on this issue, so I genuinely hope that you find them useful:

*Rub it out. Some studies have shown that applying botanical oils such as geranium oil can reduce the pain of postherpetic neuralgia. Other oils, such as lavender oil, have been shown to help relax people, which may also help take the mind off nerve pain.

Meditate on it. Techniques such as guided imagery, meditation, biofeedback, and hypnosis help some people with nerve pain live better. Finding the right professional at a reasonable price can be challenging. Do your homework and ask for a referral from your doctor or someone whose advice you trust.

My GP prescribes lidocaine 5% patches, that you can cut up and apply to help with pain management. They are really adhesive and last for 12 hours.

There is a trick to getting the best out of them, my GP has suggested my method to a couple of his other patients, and they found my suggestion works better for them too.

Let's start with your fingers. The thumb and first finger are covered by the ulnar nerve, that runs up to your elbow and then goes through a 'tube' round behind the outside bone. If you put your 3rd (ring) finger on the largest bone sticking out of your bent elbow, your first finger on the smaller bone nearer the body, where your middle finger is roughly where this nerve runs through its 'tube'. Pressing this point should hurt and may be felt in the finger and thumb.

Instead of putting a piece of patch there or on your finger (?), put it crossways just above the elbow, covering across both bones. Instead of trying to stop the pain being generated, neigh on impossible, you are slowly putting the nerve that carries that pain message to sleep. So, you find the 'pain line' that runs from the pain to the brain, and reduce the level by numbing the nerve basically. I do this for the referred pain in my thigh from the prolapsed discs in my back, result = usually 10/11 hours pain free time.

You will only find what works best for you, but all you are doing is using a topical gel that takes time to dry out, and not loads of chemicals that end up causing more trouble. In is not ingested, so is also suitable for those using alternative medication.

Yes it is a horrible type of pain as it can be sharp, hot, burning all sorts and you never know where it is going to hit next. Like others I use either a freeze gel which you can buy in quite large pots quite cheaply from Amazon or the freeze spray which nearly takes your breath away but is good for more inaccessible areas. I used to find that a soak in the bath with Epsom salts would always help but unfortunately in the bungalow only have a shower. Do hope you find something natural that helps.x

Hi guys, thank you so much for the recommendations. I sometimes felt like I'm the only one who felt this way. I was beginning to think I'm imagining it so one around me understands the pain I'm feeling no matter how much you try and educate them. I normally end up keeping it to myself how I'm feeling. Have a doctors appointment. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Chep_

Talk openly and strongly with your GP, it's his job to find you safe relief, so don't accept a brush off. We tend to give in too easily, but at a recent OH referral for work with an RA consultant, he said "when you get in front of anyone trained in treatment, describe what you have as the worst possible thing".

Too often we say "I can cope with this and that, so the response is, 'then just get on with it' ". You don't have to live in pain, or have you life restricted by pain. But too often we don't push hard enough. Tell them you crawl back to bed after having been to the bathroom. The only way you can get up stairs, is going backwards sitting down one step at a time. We always say what we can do on good days, say how you struggle on bad days.
