Does anyone have most pain in hands/ wrists and feet/ankles? Is there any cream or anything to ease it? Also constant pain in top of neck!? 😭 ... the hands are the most painful every day even if I don’t do much, but if I overdo it I pay for it later on, sometimes at night in excruciating pain 😢 any suggestions please? Thank You all

Hello, I see this is your first post with our group, so let me wish you a very warm welcome.

My hands are very painful. But this id due to having bad OA in my fingers. I also have it in my neck.

Have you spoke to your GP about it? X-rays can show up any signs of OA I have it in my toes too.

What pain medication do you take for your fibro may I ask? If your in so much pain maybe its time to have a word with your GP and see if your meds need tweeking or changing.

Hello and thank you for your warm welcome and your kind reply 😊 ... I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 5-6 years ago and before that I had various tests including an scan with seeing rheumatologist to find out if got OA but they said it’s not OA. Not sure if I had an x-ray, but definitely had MRI scan as well because of my back pain and only found that got started bulging discs in lower back and on top too, but was on fluoxetine, tramadol and Gabapentine for a while back then and didn’t really feel that was helping much so with my GP was weaning off the tramadol first, then Gabapentine and Fluoxetine, then put me on Duloxetine. After while again taking Duloxetine my mental health wasn’t better and had awful side effects if I forgot to take the Duloxetine or just was an hour later and had like buzzing through my mouth, so again weaning off them and which was horrible experience and was back on Fluoxetine. After while again didn’t feel any neither worse or better , so stopped taking the Fluoxetine and at the moment on my first nearly finished pack on citalopram? Also trying cbd vape with that and was few days on cocodamol as my back went really bad from trying to vacuum 😭 ... it’s so frustrating as used to do all sort of jobs around the house and garden, had normal job and having now 13 years old twins and 6 years old children isn’t easy anymore, even washing up became a big task 😔😢 ... thank you for pointing out about the post being unlocked and will try to sort that.

Kind regards

Andrea

I echo Momo's welcome! Assuming you are under the care of a GP for potential pharmaceutical pain meds, I can share that in addition, I find heating pad OR (not to used together) massage using body oil with ginger and/or pepper essential oil at no more than 3% concentration helpful in easing localized pain.

Andinka profile image
Andinka in reply to LisaSnow

Hi LisaSnow 🙂 thank you too for your warm welcome, yes was on few medications from a GP but didn’t find them very helpful at all, quite the opposite as made me even more tired than I am now when off them!? ... yes I use heating pad too most of time especially for my bad back pain and sometimes little bit cold but not too cold compress helps my hands too. Haven’t tried any oil or cream, but maybe thinking have been in body shop and tested hemp hand cream and it felt quite nice, so maybe will invest in that or the oil you recommend? Also vaping cbd oil at the moment but not long enough to recommend yet, plus not for everyone as not everyone is smoking, but where I bought it, the person said they have capsules or cbd drops under a tongue what some people use and find it helpful!? Thank you for your kind reply 🙂

Are you in the US? I thought CBD and cannabis products aren't legal yet in the UK? I have CBD oil I use on my shoulder but I think ginger and pepper essential oil works better (it generates heat). For pharmaceutical products be sure you stay on it for 4 to 6 weeks before giving them up. It takes a while for your system to get used to them and allowing in their full benefits. It is sometimes a game of patience!

Andinka in reply to LisaSnow

No not in US and Cbd products and hempseed oils are on market in UK even cbd capsules you can get in Savers shop and Holland&Barratt❣️❓ ... I tried those but don’t think the strength was strong enough❣️ You can get different strengths , I had 5 mg I think though ❣️ Yes I know you have to give it bit of time to see if it helps, I think about 6 weeks minimum, just trying all sorts of things over the years but who knows the drugs, strengths, combinations that would help ❣️❓😭 Plus everyone is different but same too😢 .... it’s definitely game of patience, but we all just want to have pain free life which doesn’t exist, but at least most of pain ease without feeling like drugged up zombies 😢❤️ x

Hi Andinka! It's a roller coaster trying to find a balance for sure. Gentle hugs. I've been at this fibro gig now for over 30 yrs now. The medical profession didn't offer me much relief and like you have mentioned, living life as a zombie from the side effects of the drugs was just not an option for me. I was raising a family and running my own business. Then about 4 yrs ago I started with the anxiety and panic attacks! What more? UGH!!!There has been a lot of good advice here. Magnesium is wonderful as well as EO's. They have been a godsend as well.

So I've done a lot of due diligence through the years. The things that has helped me the most to control this beast has been diet....which sucks...seems like all the things we enjoy to eat falls in all the trigger foods. Processed foods will wipe me out faster than anything. Pasta and too much white flour. Though I'm not gluten intolerant , as long as I stay on a plant based diet it controls a lot of the pain and fatigue.( Finding ways to reduce inflammation is key and yes I fall off the wagon periodically.) Making sure I drink a lot of fluids seems to work for me.

Like you, my hands, wrists and now it's starting in my feet...it's a wreck. My hands feel like paws most days and the weakness is quite annoying! Makes you feel so handicapped. Then we deal with the anger and bitterness from all this! What a crazy train.... Then when I got my sleeping to that deeper level of ram that was all the more better. And the tinctures of CBD helped tremendously at the beginning. My GP suggested seeing a medical marijuana Dr. And BINGO! I use a tincture of 1 to 1 ratio about and hour before I retire and sleep very sound with no interruptions.

I know it can be frustrating and depressing trying to find what works for you. But I am a firm believer it is crucial to find ways to release the emotional stressors. Find ways not to just relax your body but also your mind ( aka ..soul, emotions) I used to be on the roller coaster of guilt...my normal was way different than everyone else's. Except now...lol...they have all aged and complain about similar stuff!..hahaha!

For me, through the years, family and friends have not always been very compassionate or understanding. They just can't get it that we're not looking for their sympathy, but their understanding. It's a struggle every day for us. And we are warriors! Girl, you are a fighter. Find you a happy place. Find yourself a good support system...I have been involved with a great group on line...I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention that on this platform?.... Oh...another supplement that has helped is Mimosa Piduka. Research that too...Blessings💜

Hi Andinka, I use magnesium spray a lot, especially on my legs, ankles, knees, hands, wrists, shoulders, neck ....... pretty much everywhere, there is a mag/joint spray too. Some people find it doesn't help at all but I get quite a bit of relief and usually drown myself in it. Epsom salt baths are good too if you can. Freeze sprays & heat sprays or good old hot water bottles. Wet towel in microwave, wrap it in another towel then use it on your neck or wherever you need it or you can buy the longer wheat packs that go in the microwave (ideal for your neck/head/shoulders) Hope some of this helps x

Andinka in reply to CheetieCat

Hi CheetieCat 🙂 thank you for your kind reply and never heard of magnesium spray, so will definitely look for that 😊 ... yes I use Epsom salt but not as often as scared will not get out of the bath 😯😔 but definitely using the microwaveble heat wheat bags too too.

Kind regards ❤️

Most chemists stock 'Better You', Amazon or H&B also have their own make a pound or so cheaper. It may sting the first time you use it (they say you're low in magnesium if it stings 🤷) but it'll be fine after that and use plenty.🤞it helps x

Hi, wecome to this great forum. Yes I too have the pain worse in these areas, I was told that taking Magnesium helps but I didn’t realise they had a spray version CheetieCat mentioned. I will look into that. I also use massage oil and pain slayer helps sometimes x

Yes, I use Diclofenac gel on my hands at night. It is a prescription but also comes in OTC called Voltaren gel. Not sure if you have this medication in the UK as I’m in the US. It helps tremendously and I especially use it at night so I can sleep.

Andinka profile image
Andinka in reply to anna4969

Hi there, I used to be on diclofenac tablets, but not sure if they have a gel, worth the ask I suppose, just feel hopeless sometimes and frustrated by the pain and if going to doctors, almost every time I feel that I am bothering them as the answers are almost the same, do light exercises, go for walk etc!? But I also got bad back and tried go for walk only that it absolutely kills after too much walking even going to shop for food is a task and in pain and knackered only after that!? 😭 ... could it be like a ibuprofen gel? Or Valtralol or something for joint pain? If so yes I did try that too and it does help sometimes a little, which is better than nothing, but will definitely look into that, so thank you for your reply ❤️

Kind regards x

Yes, there are two Diclofenac creams, one for joints and one for muscles. I buy mine from Wilko. I also use an Ibuprofen gel. ( not together, I hasten to add!)

Cheers, Midori

Welcome to our group.

I have been using a clear gel with 10% ibuprophen,as the active ingredient. On prescription from GP, not sure if it is an over the counter medication. I find this helps as I have awful pain in my thumb joints and it helps for that. I also use it for lower back pain following surgery in 2007 for 2 bulging discs. And I find the worst symptom I have with my fibromyalgia is neck muscle pain, really quite debilitating at times, and the cream does help.

Recently the GP has put me on Naproxen which has helped my neck, but have to contact GP every month as he will NOT put on repeat.

For the neuropathic pain in my legs and general fibromyalgia pain I take 300mg Pregabalin, twice daily. Makes life just about bearable.

One tip I was told by consultant at the pain clinic, was taking tramadol at the time, was to take paracetamol as it gives tramadol a kick. But only take tramadol now if I have a relapse of my disk problems.

I also find that paracetamol is underrated by many, it does help me when used on its own (not with tramadol).

Finally, I do find that taking regular exercise very helpful. I also find the worst thing for me, is to give in to the pain. Quite often it eases considerably following exercise and exercise also lifts your mood which is a great help.

Wishing you the very best with your health.

Hi there. I've been diagnosed with fibro but I'm not convinced. However I use cbd oil for sleep which works once your system gets used to it. Also I don't have hand or foot pain like you but neck chest and back..oooooh yes. I got Canzon cbd balm. bought online. It's wonderful. Not cheap but I swear by it. Good luck.

Oh yes, my hands are like toothe ache. Its unbearable at times. Doesn't help that my favourite pastime is crochet. During really bad flare ups I find it difficult to walk because of the pains in my feet.I use a chilli based cream. The heat seems to help

Hi there❣️Awww bless you❣️😢Yes exactly what I have and I used to love crochet but now with the pain I am glad if I can do some of housework 😢 and left with lots and lots of wool too 😊😩 ... also yes sometimes even going to bathroom at night is a killer to walk, so I feel your pain ❣️😢 ... will look into chilli based cream, will try anything as tired of being in constant pain ❣️ ... thank you for your reply and sending hugs x

There is a chilli based cream that you can get prescribed but just ask at pharmacy. Are you on any medication for fibro?

I just started crocheting last year so I had something to do for my hospital stay to ease boredom not thinking of the pain in my hands. Before covid I had a hot wax hand wrap. It was wonderful and helped a lot. I may have to look into buying some as d.i.y hot wax...what could possibly go wrong 🤔

Hello Andinka, I could advise you to go to the osteopath, my dentist has recommended it to me, because the pains in the hands, neck, shoulders, back, legs were uncontrollable, the amitriptyline, solpadol, diazepan, they did not help me, on the contrary I was more and more depressed and anxious and the GP only told me to increase the dose of amitriptyline, the first day of the consultation was this week and the pains have decreased a lot, I will have my second session next week, of course it is private,

Hi Andinka

Thank you for posting this. I am the same. Painful hands, wrists, ankles and feet. Sometimes my ankles go numb and I can't put pressure on them, so I can't stand up. There is some really good advice on here so your post has helped me too.

I'm bipolar and I find all the antidepressants you have listed are useless. I've spent 26 years trying different medications and the best I've found is venlaflaxine. I'm currently taking Vencalm XL, which is brand name for it. I can't help with the pain as I can't find anything yet that takes it away, so I'm going to try the suggestions here, but I can recommend talking to your doctor about changing your antidepressants. Like all these tablets, there are nasty side effects when you forget to take them. About 12 hours late I get dizziness and diarrhea, but the good effects outweigh the odd time you forget to take it.

I hope the suggestions above help with your pain. Let me know if you find anything that works.

HiI've got psoriasis arthritis in my hands which shows differently to oa. Might be worth checking. Inflammatory markers don't show in the same way.

Whatever it is try putting your hands in warm water and gently stretch the hand and fingers. Keep your hands warm. Try some cbd balm on them.

Hi, you got psoriasis arthritis? How does that feel? Is it like dull pain but can be also like broken fingers pain like? Also pain goes to forearms, feet and toes? Also sometimes heat pads helps but sometimes cold but not too could compress helps!? Trying so many things even the cbd vape, didn’t know there was cbd gel though, will look for it. Thank you for your reply though

Yup...and in my feet...like a nasty pulling sensation then followed by a tingling, numb feeling but it's not actually numb...had it at least 6 years in my feet and now in my right hand...especially near little and middle fingers...I have asked doctor for help but they said there is nothing they can do...I've tried CBD capsules and the drops in some coffee (drops work better) and for my feet I use a CBD cream...but that only works if you put socks on directly afterwards to keep it warm...I've had fibro 20+ years and now sick of it! Literally - hope you can get some help though soon

Hello AndinkaI get this too- even gentle movement and exercise can bring it on. I have the constant pain in top of my kneck- it’s still a mystery as to what is causing it! I have had physiotherapist- who was great! She massaged and gently manipulated the base of my skull and I felt light and happy immediately after treatment! About the 6th time I went to her - she did exactly the same treatment only that time - my neck and head was in so much pain for weeks after.

It’s still a mystery- I have had neck ear and head pain constant now for about 4 weeks - I get comfort from heated beanie bags that I put around my neck. Pain meds don’t really help. Have had X-rays on my neck but all looks normal.

Doctors just say go for a walk! Get out in the sunshine! Try relaxation or meditation.. be kind to yourself..

I wish I had all the answers but this is all our own journey..

What helps me is vitamin D3, magnesium, omega 3, ginger, turmeric, and lots of spinach or other green leafy veg.

I feel like processed foods and gluten ‘poisen’ my body and toxins build up ( which I believe is causing pain)

I hope you find some relief soon

Best wishes

Debbie

Oh gosh, your doctor sounds like mine too ❣️ I think everyone is different but same at the same time❣️ We all looking for some sort of ease to our pains and start to hate going to doctors about it as the answer is always same and makes you feel like you bothering them❣️❓😢 Most of days I am in so much pain that I cry like a little girl and I am 40❣️With 3 kids and house to clean I overdo it almost all the time❣️Then I pay for it with more pain like this morning❣️😭 ... wheat bags are great, also when have to take kids to school or have to drive, got heated seat pad helps with the bad lower back pain. But know what you mean with the pain in like bottom of your scull❣️😢 are you on any medication or trying to sort it yourself like homeopathy❣️❓ I take vitamins too, but not sure if they actually help❣️ Thank You for your response though and try to take good care ❣️❤️ x

Sounds like you have a busy life! I am at a crossroads now as I have weaned off all of my pain killers and other meds ( took 2 years to get off it all) I still have meloxicam in the cupboard for when I am really desperate. The stomach pains I have had constant for over 3 weeks now and the crushing searing neck head and ear pain never goes.. ( I’m still searching for answers)

Be kind to yourself.. don’t let a bit of housework get you down.. as long as you can feed the kids and spend time with them, the house can wait,, rest when you can..

Tiger balm massaged in my neck is a help! Clears sinus too! I still think it’s a build up of toxins in the body- I’m going to try detox foods and supplements along with bio culture supplements and yoghurts.

Have a restful day ❤️

Hi Andinka. All of the above is good advice. It really is a case of trial and error, I use Pernaton gel, it contains cayenne pepper, which you can feel warming up on you. Amazon sell it, it's around £12. . Hope this helps 🤗

Hi Andinka

I suffer terribly with pain in my shoulders, elbows, wrists, hand, thumb as well as other joints. It is horrific and I can't even hold my phone yet alone type or scroll or hold a pen.

I was prescribed Tiloket gel2.5% and believe or not it offers a little relief for a short time. Then it's just the cocktail of tablets which again are not always a guarantee to completely eradicate the pain. Again heat works but then again sometimes cold does!.... yep pull your hair out lol.

I was only diagnosed a year ago so cannot really offer advice other than the above. Everyone on here will have fabulous advice.

Good luck

My acupressurist helps a lot, my osteopath before that, I learnt fibromyalgia hand exercises in the fibro/rheum. clinic (one of the few things that helped, altho I wasn't aware before how much pain I got there), and I use stretches (twist-bend-stretch my hands & feet) and arnica complex cream.

You have my sympathies, I have same and what helped my hand pain was wax treatment done at hospital as part of a pain management plan. I have since bought a wax bath thing for hands but the effects and benefits are not as good as the hospital. Sad thing is I've moved area and can't get same care.. its a health post code lottery with NHS unfortunately. Good luck and hope you get sorted.
