What it says is there has been a low attenuation in the left hypothalamus and small infarction. and global atrophy with minimal abnormality described . no clue. any one enlighten me on this .. could my thyroid have any connection to this happening..? i do have cognitive impairment and memory problems which im about to have home visits for early onset dementia .. i dont understand whats happening . i used to be so full of life , now i feel stuck in this hole and trying to get out.. i seem to be struggling to do the simplest tasks . why would a slight stroke do this.. not like its been somthing big . dam it ... ? helpppp

Sorry so sorry - the doctors should be sitting you down and explaining things to you - I hate it when people are left in the dark when its their bodies - please try and keep calm - worrying will just make it all lots worse - (easier said and done!). please let us know how you are later - reading your post - I am just coping with my fibromyalgia and pain in my heel ! - hopping around - my health problems now seem minimal- I wish you the best of luck try and get in touch with your doctor push for an appointment - get them to explain instead of leaving you so anxious - thinking of you today - all the best - Neese. x

wish i didnt have a brain. . maybe id get some bloody peace. ..funny

Firstly, I am not a doctor or medically qualified. Up until recently I was a BSc student of biology.

Low attenuation means a dark spot has shown on your scan which is indicative of a small stroke. Infarction is a blockage of a blood vessel which could cause a small stroke. Atrophy is a loss of cells which would explain your cognitive impairment and memory problems.

You need to visit your gp to discuss the results so they can explain it properly - you should probably take someone with you to help you remember later what the doctor said.

i've been to my shrink , this is who did the scan.. as they couldnt pin point a diagnosis for why i am behaving, like she had me dOwn as bi polar.. and other stuff, then did this scan....... al she said was right you had a small stroke which u may not even been aware as it dosnt cause stuff like a tia.. as its where it is is why im behaving oddly..? ok so i dont worry so why send in doctor for bloody dementia and says she may now discharge me in the outcome of what these say..? bugger my brain is fuddled . why would she leave me to this after seeing her for almost 2 years with mental probs..? yes i agree i need someone to talk for me... and listen to what they say. i forget soon as i hear it..? thanks misey...

in reply to juls

So it sounds like the scan has confirmed a small stroke in your left hypothalmus - that part of the brain controls logic, reasoning, etc (the right side is the arty side). It would explain your cognitive issues. She could be discharging you because this is medical rather than psychological - you don't need a shrink you need a neurologist. Perhaps that is the doctor she has referred you to.

Your very welcome Juls.

Sorry I can't. I do hope that it goes well and wish you good luck.

Best wishes.

If only we could get things in normal people speak instead of Dr gobbledegook.

Please ring your surgery and ask for a doctor to explain this to you. They do this often so please don't worry. Just let them know that you don't understand and it's worrying you. 🐸

I should beeping well hope so!!!

TIAs are more common than most people realise, if indeed that's what happened. I get terrible aura migraines, but without the headache. I had a cracker last night! The usual flashie zigzags did their usual circular route round my vision, then the stupid bit started. I couldn't have answered the phone if it rang, or spoken on it. My mind whirs, I can hear myself talk but the thing that comes out my mouth is not what is in my head. It can get scary. I do wonder if they are TIAs as I don't get a headache. I am too scared to ask my Dr because I don't really want to know if it is. I can only begin to understand what you must be going through. Let me know when you have had it all explained to you. 🐸

well not heard nothing as yet...im there tomorrow for blood works.. for this other dr as she is furious my doctor is not doing anything about my cholesterol .. well he gave 40 mg statins.. done nothing what so ever ..? now i knew i had a parctial blocked carotid artery that's was found 9 years ago .. so she thinks this could be why it happend..? we will see... i get thoes aura migraines too.. but I get the headache and sickness.. dam awful arn't they... do u get the colours.. red and blue... weirddddd ... i used to get them really bad years ago.. not these aura things. any way i shall let u know certainly.. hahaha x

No wonder the dr was angry that you hadn't been treated properly!! That is disgusting! At least you are now in good hands.

Haven't experienced the colours, just the flashing zigzags. Boring. I'm very glad that the headaches don't follow. Hope it stays that way. I get them when in a lot of pain, or because of light. If the sun glints off a window, or is very bright then I'm off lol. I keep sunglasses on me at all times. I even wear them in a glare.

Fingers crossed you feel the benefit soon 🐸

Aw, thanks, it just seemed apt lol.

My hubby has tried several statins and has problems with flu like symptoms with them, plus muscle ache. They sound pretty nasty. I hope you can take them without adding to your aches. I'm sure you will get to the bottom of it, at least you have the medics on side. 🐸

All the best for the scan! I take it that your carotid is under scrutiny. At least they are doing things now. Thanks for the statin info. I shall let my hubby know. Not sure which one he is on! That's terrible! He has peripheral vascular disease. Which can sort itself out apparently lol 🐸

The plot thickens been to see my gp this morning , so apparently he took the time to check my scans echos etc from last year . and he found there is something called left ventricular bundle branch block which is cardiac construction abnormality of the electrical system of the heart. which is why ive been having these bloody palpatations shortness of breath etc .. so been to see the cardioligist .so seems he may be covering him self as he knew i was seeing him today .. so he done a ecg today which has showed up abnormal.. ? now im going for another bloody echo and a 24 hour holter monitor on.. i said i had this done last year and seems my gp did not inform me of this.. then.. ? time to change my gp i think.. all this time he was blaming my thyroid for the palps yes i know this happens but all my blood tests were fine today.. hmmm so there you have it conclusion. my doc is a bloody moron. xxx thanks sorebones.. tc x

Great idea! Nobody will be able to pronounce it ha ha.

Changing GP seems like a plan to me. Your current one isn't doing his job with you. I know we don't like to ruffle feathers, but it's our health, not something to be toyed with xx 🐸

I had all the symptoms of a stroke in 1998 after a minor operation - lost my balance, couldn't follow what people were saying, couldn't read or write or do anything much except jigsaws and colouring in. But nothing showed on MRI so I was basically left to get on with it! But I did make a slow recovery to about 85% of who I was. When I was bad again after a holiday in 1999 my GP referred me to a neurologist who gave me various tests and then after a long wait was diagnosed in 2001 to have a condition called Hughes Syndrome and was eventually put on warfarin. I am not what I was, especially since developing fibro four years ago. but as long as I keep my warfarin at the right level my cognitive functioning is manageable. Hughes is like fibro; many wait years for a correct diagnosis as it mimics other conditions.

That's my story and everyone is different. But keep plugging away at the medical profession. Hopefully you will have someone with you when you have your home assessment who can keep notes for you as in my experience the hospital letters to the GP can be very short and not always helpful.

Very best of luck.
