So sorry that you are suffering this fibro throws out some strange symptoms. Have you been on our mother site Fibromyalgia Action UK as they have a list of many of the symptoms that fibro can throw up.

I am glad that you have checked with your GP about this as we must not assume that new symptoms are all to do with fibro. It does sound as though you have the same as me though and if so it is called costo chondritis which is inflammation of the tissues around the rib cage. To be honest that was the first major symptom that I had the full blown fibro. I had had it twice before but with rest and painkillers and anti inflammatories it settled down each time within two weeks but when the fibro really started the pain was continuous and I had fatigue and many other symptoms but the costo was the one that floored me the most as in my case it was extremely severe even breathing was painful. Do look it up as you might find it fits the bill. Do hope the pain eases soon. Take care of yourself.x

Hello, thank you for your reply, I have looked up costo chronditis and it does sound like that, I'm 22 though and it does say usually starts in over 40s but I'll keep my eye on it and see what happens, thanks again x

Brightlightess I've noticed thst different medical sites seem to put different age groups but I do think it is more likely in the over 40's from the limited number of people I have personally met who have suffered with it. I know my friend who was as fit as a flea thought she was having a heart attack and ended up on the floor speechless with agony. I spent about 6 hours down at A & E with her as they thought she had had the heart attack but nothing showed. She was fortunate that within a month hers was completely cured.

I think the way us fibromites have such painful muscles often all over our body doesn't help as of course the rib cage is attached to so many muscles and as we move these pull on our rib cage, any inflammation like with costo and I think we have a double whammy.

When we still had a bath I used to have a good soak in deep water with handfuls of Epsom salts added and that seemed to help. I now very gently smooth on freeze gel as that can ease it. I just do hope it gets better for you soon.x

sounds like it could be inflammation of the costal muscles which is called costo chrondritis. Its a painful inconvience but with time and rest it does settle down. Take painkillers if it gets too bad and be careful when moving and stretching.

I've had it several times and every so often get like a spasm in my chest wall area, but it does settle

Hope it settles down swiftly for you.

This is in no way normal however I agree with Rosewine and Beth that it could well be costo chondritis , very painful when it strikes suddenly, so pleased you had this checked out, not so happy about your doctors response, find another GP if yours is dismissive xx

Hi

I'm sorry that your a fellow sufferer.

I do get pains in my breasts due to fibro, as I've recently had a mammogram and everything was OK.

Having said this though, I would monitor the pain and see how it goes on etc and where it is. I don't know how old you are and if your on the pill, or have any family history of breast cancer. I would hope your dr asked you about that. I would certainly see another dr for a second opinion if it gets worse or stays with you for long period of time. It is better to nag them and be totally sure everything's ok!

Take care and best wishes.

Hello, thanks for your reply, Im 22 so don't think it could be anything more serious, but I'll keep my eye on it and hopefully it will go away as it is very sore! But if not I'll go back to my GP, thanks again, take care x

Hi Brightlightess

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I have pasted you a link below to our mother site, FMA UK which hosts loads of Fibromyalgia information:

fmauk.org/

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are suffering and struggling in this way, and as your other respondents have intimated, it does sound a lot like Costochondritis? I am so sorry that your GP did not show the duty of care to you that he should have, and I would perosnally seek a second opinion? If your pain with this gets too unbearable you could also pop along to your local walk-in centre and ask to see a doctor?

I was wondering if you have been given any referrals for your Fibro? Many members (myself included) see and undertake physiotherapy, and this sort of issue could easily be picked up by a physiotherapist. I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

I would see another doctor, just to be on the safe side. It sounds like costochondritus, however, i've had a bad year, I thought as did my doctor , was fibro. It was a young locum doctor who was quite concerned about my symptoms, pain in the right breast and shoulder blade. Cut a long story short, it was found it was my gallbladder which I had taken out and also I have GORD . I think and found that once you have got firbo, a lot of doctors, say symptoms are fibro. I hope you get sorted and not in to much pain.

Not sure from your profile if you a re male/female-sorry,, breast pains can come monthly if you are that age, they also come when taking HRT. Also your rib cages go to either side of your breasts and OA.. RA can give off bone pain.. Have you got analgesia as part of your treatment? sometimes just paracets can sort out bone pain..Have you had a cold recently that can also give you pain in your ribs especially if you,ve been coughing. Hope it goes away for you. With regards from Nurse Gladys Emanuel (open all hours)

Hi I am female and 22, I thought it might be to do with the pill, sorry I'm not sure what OA or RA is, but I havent had any colds recently, I might go back to go next week as it is really interfering with daily activities and it doesn't seem to be going away at all. Thanks for your reply x

Osteo arthritis = OA Rheumatoid = RA and yes if you,re taking contraceptive pill it can make your breast enlarge and feel like they are stretching and pain comes under each arm..It should settle but after 3 months if it isn,t you should make apt with family planning or a gynae specialist and let them decide which brand might suit you best//Good Luck
