Hi there

Do you mean that people are being granted PIP because they are in receipt of ESA, without having to do anything else? Is that your question?

Wishing you the very best

I mean ESA assessments are being used for PIP assessments

I guess that it is a possibility. The thing is that not only does each part of the Country get assessed differently, but each assessor works differently too.

I think that somewhere deep in the sea of Fibro fog that is my brain I may have read that this has happened :)

I will follow your post with interest.

Hi Chris. When I first joined in 2012 my username was BlueMermaid. It then got changed. I changed it back because many people on the forum know me as BlueMermaid.

I did put up a post "From Pixie to Mermaid" explaining my change of name.

I'm sorry you didn't see it.

But was that done by DWP for pip or was it done for ESA or was it done as one assessment.

I was told to different departments that don't communicate with each other, at all .

I didn't have a medical for my ESA ! I was put straight in support group ,

As assessor recognised me at job centre , and was so shocked at how ill I had become as I was a bit of a live wire and work aholic , and dr wrote a supporting letter ,

I can remember one post (sorry not sure by who) and they said that they were awarded PIP using the ESA documentation. I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Having spent the last year researching and undergoing all this I can't see how having one benefit awarded can be used for another. I too have read the odd very tenuous and random report that crossover has happened, never substantiated when questioned. The DWP will know what benefits you have and all the details, but the companies that deal with the 2 are paid through separate contracts and collect information geared a different way. ESA is under contract with Maximus and PIP is either ATOS or Capita. Esa looks at restrictions to prevent you working while PIP is looking at (in theory) care you need and help with normal life. Of course this is becoming dafter by the day because everyday life for many disabled people was working. They received PIP mobility so they could get to work and have as normal a life as they possibly could. I think the numbers that have lost PIP are up in the 25,000 now. The same thing is happening to the war disablement pension. In the past it was what do you need to help live life, now it's all about not being able to have any life at all to qualify for any of these benefits.

This gov talks absolute rubbish and whoever is advising them about getting disabled people back to work has got it seriously wrong, it's driving people into isolation and the benefits trap.

It all makes me sooooo angry and not being fit enough to get on the campaign against this injustice annoys me even more.

I had to go for a medical for both, I was told they are looking for different things so you need two assessments.

Hi had to go for two assessment first ESA I was given that then had to wait a year for my PIP but got that too in the end.

If you get one there is no connection to getting the other both separate medicals

I too had to have 2 separate assessments, as they are completely different benefits & are awarded for different reasons. Having worked for the DWP prior to being 'retired on ill-health grounds', I can confirm that at that time they were separate departments & run from different offices & they did NOT communicate! I only wish they did use the same assessment for both benefits, as this would save time, money & avoid the terrible stress & upset having separate forms to fill in & medicals causes us all!

When you transfer from DLA to PIP, you are asked to provide your consent for the DWP PIP decision-maker to access your DLA and ESA records. If they have sufficient evidence from these records including the ESA examination report, you can be awarded PIP without another examination. I understand that such awards tend to be at Standard Rate.
