Well Edited By Admin tell me of any pain drug that does NOT come with a whole ream of side effects as I would be very interested In trying it , along with a lot of other people!!

Have you ever read the leaflets in the boxes that come with ALL medications, they all make for pretty grim reading in fact if you read through every leaflet you would never take any tablets , from your reaction I guess you must take no medications !! Otherwise that would make you a bit of a hypocrite!!

And as my dear old nan used to say " if you haven't got anything nice to say , then best to say nothing!!!"

Hi electricjaws

I do not know much about this drug at all but I have pasted you a link to the FMA UK cache on this.

*Flupirtine - A New Drug to Treat FM?

The drug flupirtine has been used in Europe for more than 25 years to treat pain associated with cancer, trauma, surgery and other forms of neuropathic pain, and is now being considered as a possible new treatment for fibromyalgia. What makes this drug so attractive is that it is a non-opiate analgesic meaning that it is non-addictive with no withdrawal effects, has been reported to have minimal side-effects, and works best for pain associated with noninflammatory conditions.

Hi there. A heads up on the side effects. I am paying to see a fibromyalgia specialist in London and have had this drug recommended to me after seeing partial improvement with duloxetine (has gradually taken me from being so cramped up I was housebound to being back at work full time over a period of a couple of years). I'm still far from fully recovered though so I'm hoping this Mrs might take me the rest of the way. While it isn't available on the nhs it is possible to obtain through select private specialists if you are willing/are able to pay. I only know of my own specialist at present, and would be happy to share details privately if anyone is particularly interested. The side effect outlook is nowhere near as bleak as made out. My specialist tells me that of circa 200 patients around 5 have had to come off the drug due to liver problems but most have seen really promising results - particularly those who had have other treatments with no success. In order to take it it is mandatory to have a liver function test before commencing, which is repeated after six weeks, and then every three months (i think) once on the drug to make sure no damage is being done to the liver, so while there is a small risk it is managed through regular monitoring. Personally speaking, I feel very reassured after speaking to the specialist and hearing from other patients.

I'm intending to start this drug during the Xmas holidays, just in case there are side effects which could cause time off work. I have my liver function test in a couple of weeks. If that's clear I'd be totally happy to come back and tell you all how I get on with the drug. Electricjaws, i completely recognise where you're coming from and hope, like you, we can use this forum to have informed debates about medications.
