Can anyone help me with this problem because I have been put on gabapentin the pain and now I have put on so much weight I have jumped three dress sizes in the last few months, and it feels like a work out just to put my shoes on so I can go to work, and it's really starting to get me down now. Please help

Morning.

Wish I could help I to have gone from 8 stone to 11 and no matter what I do I can't lose it I am on pregabalin, was on gabapentin but it didn't help me.

I eat well. And have never been bigger than a size 10.

I think a lot of our meds make us put on weight.

But are the gabapentin helping you?

I tell my hubby it's because i am content lol.

Hi, I'm the same I put on either 3 stone in 4 months or 4 stones in 3 months doctor weighed me and said its my decision , but the tablets have made my pain more bearable to live my life as best as I can so I am still on them. Best wishes

Hello Purple Haze

Like you and those who have replied I've put on a considerable amount of weight and take gabapentin, which is really helping me. I think my gain is due to not just the medication but also not being able to cook most days. Ready meals, takeaways and things I can eat without cutlery also played a part but with help I'm now getting a better balanced and healthy diet and trying to bring my weight down to my normal size or as near as I can. This will be a long process! Have you spoken to your GP? Perhaps a referral to a Dietitian might help? It's something I'm thinking of asking for.

I'm worried that Doctors put symptoms down to my weight although they all existed before my diagnosis and when I was slim. I've already experienced this once and it's really frustrating.

Keep positive and I hope you find something that works for you.

Hi MummyPuss

I have got a appointment with the doc's on Friday morning and it can't come quick enough, because it is becoming very difficult to do the simplest things like putting my shoes on so I can go to work, and I am so scared that I won't be able to do the simplest things, and my family just don't understand what I have to go through everyday, and the gabapentin sort of help with the pain for awhile. But I will talk to the doctor on Friday and see what they say and keep you posted.

Hi Purple Haze

Snap! I have a GPs appointment on Friday too. I completely get what you are saying as I'm in the exact same place. There's a good leaflet on Arthritis UK about Fibromyalgia arthritisresearchuk.org/art...

My Rheumatologist recommended this and I got my family and kids to read this, then ask questions. It seems to have worked as they have a better understanding and have been more supportive. I have been attending Mindfulness classes and I'm just getting to grips with it but I'm finding that helps me.

Hope your GP is good and helps you. Keep us posted.

Keep well

I wish I could help but that seems to be a problem. Meds lack of being able to do what you use to do even diet has changed. I very seldom cook anymore and eat what others fix. I eat a lot of fruit and veggies but my weight keeps going up!

I took Gabapentin and didn't gain any weight, everyone is different. If you haven't already done so pls get your Thyroid levels checked out. This can contribute to weight gain if it is not functioning properly :) x

Me too, I have put on an awful lot of weight since having these medical challenges. Have tried so many ways of losing weight. I am like an overweight pirelli tyre😡

Now in desperation joined WW online and try and do some daily Tai Chi which is very gentle and can be done sitting.

I have somehow lost 4lbs now and actually feel a little more agile. Hope this continues!

But this is my own experience and other people might have a different story to tell.

Do check it all out with your GP though

Hugs Ursi

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you have gained so much weight whilst taking Gabapentin. Unfortunately it is one of the side effects that are listed and many some users do gain weight. I would personally discuss this issue with your GP to ascertain what they can do to help you. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you
