fybro made worse by drinking alcohol

hi is there anybody who has experianced this. as soon as i drink alcohol my fybro pain increases straight away

No alcohol seems to have opposite effect on myself, and I don't get hangovers! I often prefer wine to my pain killers as wine doesn't affect me the following day, whilst Amatryptoline always makes me sleepy and out of it. Saying this my husband gets a terrible hangover if he has just a couple of drinks!!

Hi no it doesn't have that immediate effect on me but sometimes the next day I feel a bit tender! having said that my daughter has ME and she is alcohol intolerant, makes her really sick. Guess everyone is different.

Yes the next day I'm in a lot of pain. I don't drink very often anymore because it takes me days to recover. Also I think it's because if I no I'm going to have a drink I watch what tablets I take and don't take as many which I no could be the reason as well.

I am alcohol intolerant, unsure if it has anything to do with fibro. On too many meds now so not a good idea anyway xx

Alcohol did exactly the same to me. I don't drink atall now. Done a wee bit of research on it and the text says the alchohol narrows and cloggs the arteries, slowing the flow of circulation thus resulting in pain.

I have noticed that certain wines do affect me, had a lovely glass of a delicious red wine with my meal the last couple of nights and muscle and back pain off the scale and I have a horrible feeling it is the wine yet I can drink a glass of another variety and be fine. I think sometimes it is unfortunately a case of trial and error with these things.

I certainly know that since I have been on certain drugs Lager which I used to love especially in the hotter days of Summer (of distant memory) now tastes as though someone is trying to poison me.x

I always can count on a major flare up when I drink alcohol. Usually just lasts the night very comsistent

Yes! But not immediately - the next day my joints all ache and I am weak and fatigued - often for days. I leave it for only special occassions when I can be dibilitated for days.

If I have alcohol I then sleep badly and the next day feel really bad. But cocktail I can hurt within 10 mins

I never drink any alcohol. I would also like to issue a gentle warning as if you are taking medication that it may not be compatible with alcohol. I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck.

Hi. Yes it definitely affects me, but I think that might be the meds.....pregablin & sertraline for Fibromyalgia, sulfasalazine & hydroxychloroquine for RA .

I really suffer the next few days.....but for the occasional good night it's worth it 😊 Is that bad??!!

Hi macco, yes if I drink my legs get a hangover haha.. I mean they get fatigued quite quickly and they always did even long before I was diagnosed. But I find I sleep much better if I've had a few drinks, Mags x

I stopped drinking 18 months ago as I couldn't bear the smell!!....even now, if my husband has a glass of wine it makes me feel quite nauseous and that's on the other side of the room!! I'm in total agreement with Ken with regards to drink and meds and worry about the effects on the body/mind as a lot of us are on strong pain meds and anti depressants! .....much love..... I find it takes the pain away for a bit but I find the next morning, even if I've just had one glass of wine I feel dreadful and it puts me back for a day or two. I've also found that the drugs I'm on exacerbate alcohol's effects - I think they make me drunk quicker. So I've stopped drinking altogether. It's a shame because the odd tipple of whisky did take the pain before I was on painkillers - the irony is not lost on me...

No alcohol at all for me as interferes with rate of drug absorption plus I'm a recovering alcoholic too 😆😆😆 six years without a drink now. The only concern I have had was oramorph as it has alcohol in it. I use little for breakthrough pain but there have been no cravings or addiction as on a good week I don't need it. Tastes yuk like cheap cough medicine.

To be honest there is nothing alcohol can add to any chronic illness apart from making you feel worse the next day!

I cannot tolerate Alcohol much anymore either, which is a shame as I really like a nice glass of Red wine

Alcohol has the opposite effect on me, the pain seems to dull so it doesn't bother me so much and I don't even get hangovers either.

I'm on Amitriptyline for the pain, but it doesn't help half as much as I'd like it to, so when it gets too bad I have a few tipples and then feel a lot better!

I don't get hangovers because I'm asleep after 2 pints 😂
