It's Only Taken 2 Years . . .

Just over two years ago I got a phone call from my GP asking me to go in to see her after blood tests were showing me to be borderline diabetic. I disputed that from the outset as I knew from my friend (she's diabetic and thinks it's "fun" to compare sugar levels before and after meals when we go out) that this was unlikely as mine were always fine. Anyway she gave me Metformin (which I didn't take as I said that I would prefer to control with diet before taking any drugs) and I was put on the diabetic register that meant I had to go for eye test, podiatry test etc. Subsequent blood tests were coming back within normal levels but last month after my yearly MoT check (I have High Blood Pressure) the nurse there said she had made me an appointment with the Diabetic Clinic nurse, never had to go there before so was a bit concerned something was wrong. I've since had an appointment with my GP (about something unrelated) and she was happy how well I was doing with my blood sugar levels using diet control.

Fast Forward to today - the day of the appointment with the Diabetic Nurse.

Nurse asked me if was ok as I didn't look too great so I explained my back has been very sore and because I was driving I couldn't take pain killers hence I was in agony. Once I was sat down she took my BP which was a little higher than she'd like but said being in a lot of pain could explain that. Next she said that my blood sugars were a little lower than she would like and that I may have to have my med levels changed. It was at this point I informed her that I wasn't taking any meds just watching my diet and she excused herself saying she would need to speak with one of the GPs for advice. About 10 minutes later she came back and said they had gone back over my results and couldn't understand why I had been put on the Diabetic Register in the first place!

It's taken since April 2013 but looks as though I've been proved right!!! Now if they would only listen to my concerns about my thyroid . . .

You couldn't make this up could you. I reckon between us we could write an epic on misdiagnosis in the NHS. I am just so glad for your sake that you refused the Metformin as you would have been on a totally unnecessary drug for two years. You have still had to go to all those appointments that you need not have done as well.

Hopefully in the future they will listen to you but from your post it seems you have a second battle ahead of you.

There is nothing I can say that would make it better but at least now you know that is one thing you aren;t suffering from so can tick it off the list.x

I can genuinely imagine that is such a relief for you? I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck. I was wondering if they have sent you for a thyroid blood test?

All my hopes and dreams for you
