Hair cut

So today's the day I'm getting my lovely long thick hair cut short (not too short though) and thinned out. Brushing it down my back pains my arms, shoulders and neck and it's become too hard too manage. It's just hair right? So why am I so sad/mad/anxious/gutted.

We are attached to our hair - literally! It's natural for you to feel anxious about getting it cut.

Remember though, it'll grow back if you really don't like it short. I had my head shaved some years back for Cancer Research, and now having a bald head is just a distant, vaguely amusing memory.

It's all temporary.

Anyway, I think you'll look lovely with it short - it'll suit the shape of your face :)

Good luck xx

It is your hair, your crowning glory as my mum would have said and it has probably taken a long time to get it the length it is. As Equinearcher has said if you don't like it, it will grown back.

The first few tresses being cut are the most difficult but when you feel how light your hair feels on your head and how much cooler over the summer it will be you won't care any more :)

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new style :)

Hi I know what you mean. My hair is shoulder length and thick. I have stopped washing it frequently as like you say it hurts. Also I don't dye it myself now, as again it is too much effort for me and painful. You have to adjust your life to do what makes it easier for you. I am waiting at this time for my shopping getting delivered, as going shopping was becoming hard.

Next week I am going to a group session to try out different devices, just to see what would work , again to help with every day things.

Your hair will turn out lovely, and if it helps you it will be worth it!

Karen xx

It's absolutely normal to feel this way, I am always apprehensive about having mine cut and frequently upset afterwards. I've had great hair cuts abroad but in Britain its just a disaster (as most services are IMHO). I'm very sensitive about people and if the hair dresser doesn't have the right attitude, which is often, I really can't stand being touched. I had mine shortened recently because I couldn't cope with the length. A lovely intelligent Norwegian cut it, and I felt relatively ok about it. I have learned never to have anything complex done just a trim, that way there is damage limitation.

Hi , I don't have that problem, I have only a few hairs and a nit, ha ha, but seriously my hair is very thin you can see my scalp through it, my husband and I have a bet on who will go bald on top first. but I use products to fluff it up a bit which makes me feel better about it but when you are out and about there are many women with this problem, but I would love to have more hair and whilst I'm on about it thin legs, stones lighter and most of all my old way of life back, but you cannt have everything and I must think of the things I can do and will do not the things that I did. Summer is here and we must all enjoy the warm sun on our bodies and enjoy when and if we can.

I had my hair all chopped off today as well, mine was long but now it is above shoulder length, will be so much easier to manage now though, I was really struggling with washing mine and straightening it, my sister has recently been doing it everyday for me but now I should be able to do it myself so I now have some independence back :) xx
