There are many aaren't there it is scary. I am wheat free low fat but not no fat. Basically I eat fruit vegetables and lean meat and drink water and coffee of course!!
Any diet that suits the way you live perhaps not a diet but a different eating way. I have done every fad diet lost wait put it on. :)
so thats from all extremes and now I watch portions it is so easy to slip a bigger portion on your plate- so I use a smaller plate. I try and eat slowly chew thoroughly takes a long time you get fuller and also bored with it..
I drink lots and I mean lots of water!!
Hope that helps

I am doing calories, hubby does all the cooking and he writes down everything that i eat. I have lost stone so far. I have ra/fibro/cfs/sjorgens so i am not able to exercise very well, but i am happy it is coming off.xxx
You have a good hubby
I find the only way is portion control, I have to lose quite a lot of weight and, as you say, exercise is not always an option, it is a case of long term commitment. Do see your GP also because there may be local gym facilities at discount or even no cost that you could be referred to, they have instructors trained in working with disabilities. Best wishes. Lou xx
I find calorie counting with mfp every thing no cheating portion control and don't eat junk. Drink plenty of water and I do walk a lot but not everyone can do the walking I've lost 3 st 4 lbs in 16 weeks I have a lot of medication to so if your honest to yourself it does work good luck on your journey soft hugs liz
Hi Lizzo, I agree with you after months at weight watchers, I only lost 4 pounds because I found I wasn't really motivated and their plan didn't seem to work for me this time round. Last year I lost a stone but gradually put it back in 6 months. So, I am doing it on my own counting cals and walking as much as possible. Unfortunately, due to illness and injury I cannot do as much exercise as before. Well done on your weight loss
What does mfp mean? measure??
Hi there thank you for your cooment and mfp means my fitness pal it's an app I have on my phone I use it. Every time I eat any thing good luck with your weight loss journey let me know how you get on I also have fresh lemon juice in half a cup of boiled water before any tea coffee or breakfast each morning starts your body matabalisum going faster for the day Hope this helps you that's my secret help to me it's worked for me I'm sure because I never did it before and my weight loss was a lot slower bye for now let me know if you want to ask me about anything else what I do but said the main things and just be honest to yourself
Hi Maxymaxy, there is only one way to lose weight, eat real food. Plenty of meat, all veggies, good fats i.e. coconut oil, butter, olive oil, avocados, I personally avoid dairy at the moment because of CFS/Fibro caused by candida/leaky gut. Avoid all grains/pasta/refined carbohydrates/processed food, I am with a private doctor specialising in my illness ,not only will you lose weight but it will help with your health. Never be scared of fats, they will not make you put weight on, our bodies/brains need them!!
I'm afraid I have to disagree with the plenty of meat bit - we eat far too much meat, and we simply aren't designed to (or need to). Small quantities of red meat can contribute to a healthy diet, when balanced correctly with the other things you have mentioned, as well as chicken and oily fish. Eating too much meat is bad for us.
Well, the best one is eat less, exercise more.
However for obvious reasons as already stated exercise isn't always an option. Generally speaking, you need to put into your body less calories than you expend each day. Fun fact - even when completely inactive, you still burn calories. This is called your Basal Metabolic Rate, and it's pretty simple to work out. My BMR is 1551.36, so I burn that many calories each day without doing ANYTHING at all. Just being alive. Happy days.
If I wanted to maintain my current weight, and I did zero exercise all day, just sat around or lay or bed, I could eat 1500 calories each day. If I wanted to lose weight I would eat less calories, and if I wanted to gain weight I'd eat more. Unfortunately, 1500 kcals isn't much food unless you eat vast quantities of vegetables with each meal.
Calorie counting can be useful, I've done it myself, but it's also time consuming.
I find a lot of people aren't honest about their diet. The lady who sits opposite me at work goes to Slimming World. She *has* lost weight, but her diet could NOT be called healthy, simply low fat (fats are good, we need them). She has vegetable sticks for her mid morning snack, which means it's obviously then ok to eat a whole big bag of kettle chips and 2 Snickers bars in the afternoon, yet she still sits and lectures me for drinking eating Nakd bars (vegan cold pressed snack bars made with nuts and fruit) because they are "SO full of sugar".
Sure, medication can cause weight gain, but attitude towards food is also key. Its easy to think "my medication makes me fat, so I may as well eat this cake", but maybe we should be thinking "my medication may cause weight gain, so I need to try even harder to stick to a healthy diet". If your medication makes you craze bad foods, get rid of them from your house. If you know you like a late night snack, buy healthy ones, or make them yourself. Swap milk chocolate for dark. Also, thirst causes feelings of hunger, so try drinking a pint of water before heading for the fridge.
I lost 5 1/2 stone with ww. So it does work the meetings & help of other members can't be beat. Xx
I'm doing Slimming World. I've lost 2.5 stone with them- my mum, who has spinal problems and COPD for which she requires oxygen, has lost 11.5 stone so it does work. I've just gone back onto plan after 3 months off and lost 1.5 lbs first week. I can't exercise at all at the moment either.
Also have to disagree with eating lots of meat- I couldn't, it would make me unwell. Only meat I eat is chicken, I hate red meat. I have food and choking phobias as well and I got told by my psychologist that the biggest cause of choking is meat. I prefer a virtually veggie and slightly softer diet which lowers the risk of choking.
I have fortunately never had a major weight problem but I really think portion control is the key. The tip about putting whatever you are eating on a smaller plate is excellent as I am sure alot of overeating is psychological and if you see a full plate you will think you are eating more. Unless you know there is a food that upsets you don't cut out any particular food group but do try and fill up on things like fruit and veg. if I am hungry I eat a banana or a mandarin and it just takes away the "nibbles" craving.
Just remember that many a time we think we are hungry we are actually thirsty so even drinking half a glass of water helps and a glass of water before a meal not with it will make you feel fuller so you will eat less. Don't have ant temptations around if the biscuits or chocolates aren't there you can't eat them. If you really have a chocolate craving a couple of squares of dark chocolate which is good for you should take it away.
We all know it is extremely difficult to get the amount of exercise we need because of our illness but even stretching or exercises that can be done in a chair helps. Perhaps you could get a referral to a physio who could give some gentle exercises to do that would not upset your system too uch.
Good luck with it all, please do let us know how you get on.x
Hi maxymaxy,
I see you have had quite a few weight loss suggestions, I've tried them all without success, I had been hearing a lot of people say Slimming World was good, as they do an "extra easy plan" OMG I've never eaten so much as I have in the last 7 weeks! I have lost 12 lbs so far & 2 of those weeks I had a couple of lb gains as I had eating out occasions & I didn't choose healthy options so I knew I would gain I also have my sweet & savoury treats every night, my treats are a curly wurly & a packet of hula hoop pufts (soft version) it is unbelievable 1st week costs you £15 because getting the book's then it's £5 a week best money I've ever spent, when you think of all the money spent on the fattening food's cakes etc it's actually well worth the class charge, I cannot recommend Slimming World highly enough xx
Me too Slimming World ha showed me what healthy eating really is, I have lost 2.5st and boy do I feel better! No breathlessness, less inhalers, more energy, better mobility the list is endless and the sheer amount of healthy food you can eat in a day is massive. Who would have thought that a full English breakfast...eggs, bacon, tomatoes, baked beans and mushrooms is even possible on any diet? With Slimming World it REALLY is! Try it you won't be disappointed!
