Finally diagnosed by rheumatologist today!

Hi all after years of wondering why I was always sore and having a ridiculously long list of aches pains and ailments. Not to mention wondering why my memory was so poor.

Last year finally my Dr suggested that I might have fibromyalgia. I've been prescribed amytriptaline and tramadol so, will give them a bash.

Hi Annita

Welcome to the forum and I sincerely hope that you find it useful, informative and loads of fun! I have pasted you a link below to our mother site, FibroAction which hosts loads of useful Fibro information:

FibroAction Website:

fibroaction.org

I am so sorry to read that you also have this wretched illness, and I sincerely hope that you are receiving a good combination of medications to help ally the pain. I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

I would try giving the tramodol a miss. As they are highly addictive and after a while they don't do anything for you.

Hi maco100,

I went to my GP with the letter from the rhumatologist this morning.

She was happy to prescribe the amytriptaline but not the tramadol.

She gave me co-codamol instead for occasional use.

She didn't want to give me tramadol for the reasons you've given.

I'll trust her on that. I've heard its heavy.

Thanks for your advice 😃

Hi Annita,

Hope the Fibro is not getting you down today.

Just wondering if your doctor referred you to any other consultants or if you've had any specific investigative tests done?

I don't want to throw a spanner in the works but I think it would be really useful to see how the medication goes but to also push for a referral to a Rheumatologist to actually confirm or at least investigate things further before 'settling' for a 'probably Fibromyalgia' diagnosis.

After my Fibro diagnosis, my sister who was also having similar aches and pains went to her doctor and was given the same meds as you and I initially - Tramadol and Amitriptyline. However, some of her symptoms sounded slightly different to mine so I asked her to persist in requesting a referral to a Rheumy and it turns out she has Rheumatoid Arthiritis - Not Fibro!

Wishing you all the very best going forward - only you truly know exactly what you're going through so do everything you can to get an accurate diagnosis.

Hi Reykua.

Thanks for your reply.

I've had blood tests, scans etc to rule out more obvious problems. I

saw the rhumatologist yesterday who read through the diary I'd kept since last October.

He tested the sore bits on me and took more bloods.

He gave me the diagnosis.

I've also to see a neurologist in a couple of weeks.

It's taken a long time to get here but hopefully the amytriptaline will help, given time.

He said it's not arthritis.

Thanks for your advice x

Sorry Annita,

Silly me - obviously having a Fibro moment.

Was so caught up with my sister's outcome that I completely ignored the fact that you say you've actually been seen and diagnosed by a Rheumatologist.

Well done and all the very best going foward. I have found the Tramadol helpful - I only take it when I absolutely have to and the flare is really bad. All other times, I take Naproxen (which is like a strong ibroprofen).

The Amitriptyline is great cos it really helps with sleep and as my doctor says - sleep is medicine!

I'm hoping the amytriptaline helps me sleep too, that's good to hear 😃x

Hi Maco, thanks for your reply. I didn't like the Amytriptaline at all, so don't take that, I was given pregabalin which seems ok so far. I have only taken about 12 of the tramadol in total since I was prescribed them. I only take them when I'm extremely sore. thanks for the heads up though.
