Hi, I feel for you! I too have my assessment at occ health this afternoon. I had my meeting with HR and manager last Friday. I'm apprehensive too but actually I know in my own head that I just cannot cope with work, I've been off since mid November. Let me know how it goes. Xx

I've been there and it's not nice to go through. I was devastated when my contract was 'ill health terminated' but looking now I can see I couldn't sustain even a few hours and my health had to come first.

Thinking of you, stay calm xx

Hi Julie and Sunnygirl

Hope all goes well for you today. I know 5 years back when I had to go through it I was all stressed out but in my heart of hearts I knew with the pain and fatigue I was in I was incapable of doing my job to the standard I set myself. The Occupational Therapist was a lovely man and I am sure that helped the process. In the end although I was very sad as I loved my job it was a kind of relief that it was all over and at least now I have the time to manage my illness and even though it has taken me ages I have now come to terms with it and know the decision to finish was the best thing.

I will be thinking of you both. Soft hugsx

Hope everything goes well for you both and for everyone who is going through the stress of work / sickness reviews. Good luck and gentle hugs, Julie xxx

Hi y'all. I was given a second chance with a new target of no more than 6 absences in 12 months. If I go over that it will almost definitely be dismissal. It is always the aim to have no sicktime but as we all know sometimes it is inevitable for us. Thanx for all the support. Much appreciated

Well I was told I cant retire on ill health as I haven't tried 2 different meds for Fibro? The rheumatologist in Nov made some recommendations (pregabalin, Gabapentin etc) but my GP seems reluctant to try me on them - so how am I supposed to try them? My sick note runs out on the 28th, I feel majorly stressed now, and we're away this weekend to celebrate our Ruby wedding! I feel like piggy in the middle over it all, xx

I think you ought to change GP. Pregabalin is a recognised treatment for fibro. How much sick time does your work allow you? Might be a good idea to get some more time off rather than going back too early. Perhaps you could contact the rheumatologist and ask them to write to your GP. Are you able to appeal the decision for ill health retirement?

I hope you manage to get the meds you need! Let us know how you get on. Becky. Xx

I had 4 months on half pay which I've almost exhausted, I think that is why HR and my Manager were suggesting the ill health route, but if the Occ Health doctor says I don't "qualify" for that I'm not sure what to do next?? My own GP has had the letter from the Rheumatologist regarding medications in December, but she managed to persuade me to manage on just the Amitriptyline. I feel as if I'm in a revolving door and going round in circles - HELP!

I briefly updated my Manager - she doesn't know what else I can do, I will email her tomorrow and ask about a possible appeal.xx

in reply to

I was taken off amitryptiline to go on citalopram for depression so am only on painkillets which dont really help much. Im waiting for pain clinic but rheumy wasnt sure if he would accept fibro patients.

in my area you can't be referred to a pain clinic until you've tried at least 2 different meds for Fibro. There is a 6 week Fibro course but neither the rheumatologist, GP in occ health not my own GP can refer into it - so I am a little baffled as to how to get on it. Oh yeah, can't self-refer and physio can't refer me onto it. Not sure how many people have managed to get on it! Is it just me or is everything unduly complicated? X

Hi sunnygirl2. What area ate u from. I haven't had the rasiest time with my doctors either. I dont think they quite understand

I'm in the north east, between Sunderland and Durham. I spoke with a friend from work last night about feeling I was going round in circles, she reminded me that as we are employees by the NHS this is normal behaviour, and I shouldn't be surprised at going round in circles, lol

Thats not very helpful. Can u not refer yourself to this programme. There must be a way to access it.
