Feeling particularly knackered today...

What do you do when you just can't get going?

Can't really survive on coffee?!

Hi VM :)

Sorry to hear you're struggling with fatigue at the moment and can understand the whole coffee thing too. I have found it sends me to sleep these days rather than keeps me awake! :o

Sometimes I really have to talk myself into doing something when the fatigue is at its worst especially the chores that must be done. I always have 30mins relaxation before physical activity I find it helps me to recharge some energy before doing something. It doesn't work for everyone as we're all different but just in case you're interested I'll give you a couple of links to see if it would be for you or not :)

There are also lifestyle changes that we can make which are also beneficial to us fibromites in order to save and conserve energy to perform chores and actvities.

This first link it to our Mothersite fibroaction.org and our complementary/alternative medicine/treatment fact sheet which may give you some new ideas on how to conserve or produce extra energy. However, I must say that speaking to your GP about your increased fatigue could prove to be fruitful as he may be able to refer you for something or if you do find something new you'd like to try you could discuss it. Some treatments/therapies can clash with your existing meds and therapies and yr GP will know if they are suitable for you or not :)

Fact sheet 6: How Is Fibro Treated? Lifestyle Adaptations.

Alternatively, I often have a stock of something like lucozade for short bursts of energy too!

Hope this is helpful and you find a solution soon, fluffies and smiles for you :)

Hi veggiemomma! I agree with zeb only 100% maybe more.

Pacing is such an important way to get through any day, any chore, anything that might tax your energy or cause you stress. I do things like a bit of meditation or visualization to lower my stress, sing, listen to music, read, make a phone call, change a doctor appointment, watch a little Bones or NCIS - this time of year some silly holiday cartoons, or best of all, I love Scrooge in all the renditions I've ever seen.

I make lists of everything I have to do today, tomorrow, and sometimes for the whole week. I put them in priority and level of energy expenditure involved. If I get my thank you notes written, then I think I've done enough for the day; anything else is gravy. But even for the littlest things, I pat myself on the back with congratulations.

I don't blame myself for taking naps when I need them, even if I'm in the middle of a project or chore. FM makes me pace myself, so I need to listen to my body and my mind and not question the signals they send.

As for coffee, I had my first cup of black coffee at age 12; mom didn't think there was anything wrong with that. I never had either. I'm down to one, sometimes one and a half cups - 12 ounce cups - per day. Then I drink decaf and pretend it's leaded. I use half and half to add some sweetness and body, but will savor it black too.

Find the things that help you relax in between the things you think you must do. And relax with any decision or plan you decide on. I think you'll feel better, have more energy and less fatigue. I certainly hope so! Let us know how it's going. I'd love to hear what you found works for you as coping mechanisms. Stay positive even when things seem bleak and you just want to hide in sleep. Chin up; there is a solution.

You are most welcome and try not to give up with the pacing yet it can take a while to get used to and to master :)

Remain positive and take things one step at a time :)

Hi veggiemomma

I am so sorry to read that you are struggling this way, and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to the issue. I also agree with zeb73, as I always think that we should pace ourselves.

I genuinely hope that you start to feel more like your usual self again soon.

All my hopes and dreams for you

I hope there are spaces in your day. When I've done what MUST be done - like work - then the washing up can sit still for a bit. So can the hoovering. Personal hygiene and nutrition are tops. The rest wont kill you. I've often come home from work and gone to bed, getting up to make a meal then back to bed. stimulants are only a short term answer and no cure. Good luck.
