PAIN
Hi there, I can understand you and your knee pain, I have been suffering with knee pain since I was 14 back then it was called growing pains. I have gad numerous op on both knees and managed to get one done around 7 years ago it was a failure from day one it dropped me down the stairs. I have just woken up with back pain hip pain and worst of all my knees. I couldn't move.for sometime and needed the bathroom so really had to work hard to get my legs moving. But every step was agony and its just getting worse. But I can't get anyone to do anything to help me this then diminishes your quspality of life because there ISO much I can't do bt would love to do. He nine gets really bad I get a wheatbag and warm it up and put it over the knee and sometimes it works enough to ease it a bit. I hope you find some relief soon take it easy and I hope it eases got you soon. Take care
Jackie
That sounds really terrible- especially to have gone through the operations and not had success with them! It is awful when there is back pain along with the knee pain because it does make walking agony! I do know how you feel but have not experienced it for nearly as long as you have so I hope that you find relief as well! I will try warming up a wheat bag as suggested. Thanks!
I know how u feel about knee pain, and they tell me there is nothing wrong after having key hole surgery taking some of my cartilage out and washing my knee, the pain is still there after 7 years, I have just bought a tens machine which really helps with the pain, it's a battery operated one so u can ware it on the move.
Hope this helps
Gentle hugs
I was just looking through the boards and notice you have tremendous pain in your knees[I have awful pain in my legs due to a Beta blocker I'm on for high BP since I have bought some heatholders socks the pain as lessened a lot.It didn't wake me up last night.I have just ordered some heat holders joint warmers and am hoping they have the same effect on my knees by reducing the pain.
Perhaps this might be an idea for you to try.Good luck.
Hi and thanks for your response. I found a few things you said interesting: all of my pains had gotten much worse since having my baby 5 years ago and I did have peripartum cardiomyopathy. Which means that I had gone into congestive heart failure after having her because of all of the the toxins built up and then laying around my chest. I am down to one blood pressure med now but at one point was on 8! I wonder if those meds did any damage?? Also those heat holder joint warmers sound like a lovely gift for me to get myself...since noone quite understands that I am not being a drama queen about my discomfort! Thank you and take care!
Thanks for your reply, perhaps your BP med does not help the pain at all.Depends what it is always worth asking the GP to see if he will consider trying another.I'm on three[almost four]BP has been really uncontrolled the past few weeks and the pain only really got too bad when I was put on atenolol. My GP says it's ok for me to take a paracetomol on this one.Good job I'd already taken it.Sorry to hear about the complications with your heart.I hope you are recovering well from the peripartum cardomypathy[I know of some-one who is recovering from that too]I hope you are able to watch your child grow up without too much pain and suffering.
Take care.
Thanks for the sweet reply. I definitely will ask the doc about the bp med. My heart has actually recovered fully, minus a little murmur, which I can live with. The biggest disadvantage is that I've been assured it would happen again if I were to have another baby, and I wouldn't be so lucky next time. BUT as crappy as I feel all the time... Who would have the energy for a baby? I feel terrible that she has to count on her dad for all the fun stuff: the trampoline, playground, running, etc. I do the best I can though. At least we're both here, there certainly was a time when it was questionable for the both of us! Anyway, I hope your bp straightens out!!
Thank you for your reply.I am glad you can watch your child grow up with your partner that's the main thing.
Looks as if I will have to go back on atenolol as my bp goes up overnight but levels out when I've taken the morning dose so it's not advisable for me to take it in the morning.I shall only take half a tablet as the dr, suggested and hopefully sleep through the pain at night.
Take Care.
Maybe he is weaning you to go off completely? I was once on that drug and am no longer... Remember too to keep an eye on potassium! Good luck and I hope you are able to rest well, friend.
Hello again,
No my DR. is just starting to prescribe antenolol as my pulse is high and the three BP tablets[different types] are still not controlling my bp,
I don't want to take another tablet but needs must and if I need to take it at all i'm only going to take half of it. Potassium bloods were taken a couple of weeks ago and were ok.I was told to eat two bananas a day by my dr. years ago[i'm fed up of them]to keep potassium level ok.
Rest happy.
You do the same friend. I do hope your bp issues become leveled out. I'm sure that your pain could be cause of some of that elevation so I hope that you are as comfortable as you can be!
I have noticed my pulse goes higher if I am anxious or stressed.I was waiting for two friends yesterday and my pulse went upto 100 at rest.[They tend to only listen to themselves] and when you are feeling under the weather you don't always need that. Colder weather hope your pains are not deepening.Take care.
Clonidine is another bp medicine that is supposed to help with anxiety as well. Are you on that by chance? Just wondering... You take care too!
No I've never heard of Clonodine. My BP was ok early this morning but it wasn't yesterday,so it's a bit hit and miss whether I decide to take antenolol.Probably better confirming with dr.But then he's more as less do what you think if you need it..Hope you've had a good day.
Hello to all, the pain in the knee is something that I also understand as mine started in 1992 in the left knee.
I had the cartridge trim done twice and it seemed to ease a bit.
The pain I control with 30/500 co-codermol tablets, my knees rest on a pillow/bean bag over night to stop them from staying straight and stiffening in that position. I do slow careful bending of both knees, before I get out of bed, to get them flexible and moving.
When ever I go out I use crutches to give support and stability, use them around the house as well, these will help a great deal. It could be that you have the start of osteoarthritis, and x-rays will help decide the position.
If things are really bed and your doctor does not seem to be of much help, then maybe a trip to the hospital is needed to get 'on the books' and they may well loan you some crutches. following your reporting of the walking difficulties you are having.
Try and keep your knees warm, but not tightly compressed, the warming wheat bag is a good thing to use.
If you are able to sit in a bath try Radox muscle soak, either the blue liquid or the blue salts to soak in, they really help. I cannot sit in a bath, and have used the radox in a drench style, and sponged it across my knees and this has helped to ease the pain and help the joints move.
I hope this improve for you, but this highly changeable weather does not help, and the cold is the making of things worse, my knees give me grief most days in this weather and I have a blanket on my knees, it helps and makes you feel comfortable, ttfn
Hi, yes I do something similar at night. Knees propped on cooling gel pillow. Sometimes ice pack wrapped around, sometimes heating pad wrapped around. I have a hot tub and the jets spraying against my knees used to feel fantastic, now it hurts so I just sit there and soak. Helps some but is temporary...
Hi fibro_why
I am so sorry to read that you are in so much pain. I would recommend that you discuss this with your GP or Medical Specialist as nobody should be left in so much pain that they cannot cope with it.
I want to wish you all the best of luck with this.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
Hi Ken, yes my GP is aware of my pain. She is sure that I have an autoimmune disease that's not been tested for. In the meantime she has approved all referrals I've asked for and the MRI I've asked for. So I pretty much have to hang in there. The latest referral I've asked for is to a rheumatologist about an hour away who is supposed to be excellent. I am hopeful he will be as good as his reputation... Hope you are well and thanks for the response!
