A pain management clinic referral was a light at the end of a long dark tunnel for me I can recommend trying this approach

I would ask for a referral to the pain clinic. I cannot recommend it strongly enough.

Depends on the hospital, I went Kingston hospital and it wasnt much help, I got so bad with the pain from fibro, I asked for a referral to St Peters pain clinic, that was helpful, I previosly been on pain management course, I did not find that helpful but frustrating as they didnt help. Try a different hospital David. Dont give up

Its really hard because not a lot of hospitals understand what fibromyalgia is

Hi David Shelby

I am sorry that you are suffering so much pain, especially in your back and legs. My back is my bug bear, so I have asked my doctor, if there where any pain patches i could take besides Morphine. She put me on Buprenorphine patch at 5 MCG 'HR TRD to start of with, and they didn't work much so i'm on 20 MCG for for seven days then change another for the next seven days etc. I also top this up with a 12hr Versatis 5% medicated plaster Lidocaine patch. They work for me a little, but might work more for you, so please ask your doctor if you could give these a try. Good luck hun :-) x

So sorry to hear how much pain you are in. I too suffer from pain in my back and legs all the time, (and many other areas, but won't bore you with that).

I found the pain clinic really helpful, but I can imagine, it must vary from area to area. The clinic also gave me leads to other departments and they even run a 4 week group meeting for other fibro suffers to meet and gain information and suggestions as well as getting to just chat to other sufferers and hopefully make a friend or two along the way, as this condition is very isolating.

I wish you all the best in finding the treatment you need to help ease your pain.

Take care x

I have suffered from depression for many years and often felt the way you are now councelling can help some people but at the end of the day it is down to the individual . when i get low i think of others who are in a much worse situation .of course it is worth going on .

you will go on David and you will learn to live with it, i have been doing so for past 20 years. I had periods of total exhaustion and no mobility from neck down. the one thing that helped was using the hydrotherapy pool at royal orthopedic hosp, at first i struggled to get into the pool and could not walk at all by myself but months later i was able to do land exercises. Combined with pain management and exercise i did move forward. it is so hard but it will be done as the alternative to lying in a bed for the rest of my life did not appeal. i can do that anytime and place as that is always the default position for me.

All these suggestions are great but what about when you suffer from anxiety or can't afford the fuel for the hospital visits? We don't all have friends or family that can accompany us and are never sure if we are going to feel well enough to even make the appointment. I for one am sick of the pain and have found it does get worse the longer you have it. I know just how you feel and you have my sympathy.

I don't think the suggestion that theirs someone worse than you actually works when your depressed and in so much pain.

Hi David, at times when you have continued pains it gets you down, It comes to a point that depression can set in. At times you can't put into words what goes through your mind, things that you need releasing and to talk to someone you can trust. My personal thing i always do his my GP he will listen, know you have not said if you are on any medication, if so could the medication make you feel has you are. The thoughts going through your mind sound worrying and you just need to seeK help. I have been in conditions and even know depressions and fatigue but I just see my GP who his very understandable. chin up think what as been said even by others as we are all here to help each other and been in those deep waters good luck and please see your GP .
