Hi Yes some days it is awful usually it seems to be where air conditioning is. also our medication can dry out our mouths leaving a dustbin effect very dry and in need of lubrication. I understand that certain food can also dry out our mouths leaving us gasping for water.
I would check your medications see if the information that comes with them gives you any idea if they are the culprit .
Go to your dentist and check none of your fillings/amalgums are leaking.
Check with your Doctor see what he thinks.

Hi Si
Yes sometimes and it affects the taste of food etc too which can be really annoying and wasteful as my food ends up in the bin. I have always put my experience of this down to side effects from medications but I also have hypersensitivities that maybe be the causal factor behind it but I'm really not sure.
It may be a good idea to speak to your doctor or even dentist about it if it continues in case it is a new symptom for something else or the fibro.
I thought you may be interested in these Posts from the past, they are both from 2 yrs ago but may reassure you that you're not imagining it

I believe that certain medications can and do affect this sort of thing & experience this nasty dry mouth myself. I used to be able to eat a meal out and be able to tell what was in the food re herbs, spices etc but not any more. I find that my appetite has significantly decreased (no bad thing perhaps) and my general interest in food is almost non existent - also cooking was something I used to enjoy but not any longer!!
There's just one thing I'm going to ask my doctor when I see her tomorrow and I'm sure you will know if this could apply to you but I'm a prime candidate for maturity onset diabetes (type 2) & am going to ask for a fasting blood sugar test to see if this is why I have this overly dry mouth. It is certainly more of a problem now than it used to be. I don't really have any of the other symptoms associated with diabetes (apart from the tiredness!!) but thought I'd get it checked. Being 55, overweight, inactive and with a tendency now to not eat the right things (since losing my sense of taste & smell 3 years ago I'm very much more drawn to eat sweet things and not to have the vegetables I used to enjoy... ) I feel it's worth investigation. I also avoid aspartame so again take sugar in my cordial, fruit teas etc and while this hasn't been a problem for as many years as I can recall feel it has perhaps caught up with me...
So if you are feeling unusually thirsty, passing large amounts of urine, hungry, losing weight or experiencing unexpected tiredness (apart from what you would expect from your FM) then I'd recommend a visit to your GP for a chat. There are lots of conditions (or none at all!!) that can cause a dry mouth but a simple chat with your doctor should help eliminate these or get you some relief.
Wishing you well. xx
Hi sporty333
I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I also suffer with this due to some of my medications. I have read on the list of side effects that Nortriptyline and Prednisolone can cause this, I was wondering what medications you were taking? As this may be the cause?
It is always worth discussing the issue with your GP to ensure that there is nothing else going on here.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
