IMIPRAMINE - anyone taken it?

Hi, I posted a question about this drug 3 days ago but only had 2 responses which is unusual. I'm now thinking it must be quite a rare drug to be put on so perhaps I should not go on it unless you've all been hyper busy C/mas shopping.

Has this been prescribed for you?

Yes by a GP I've seen for years who previously had me on Amitriptyline for 8 years and a statin. I've not seen much of him this last year because a new GP joined the practice who I felt was more up to date so I've been seeing him. He's supported me off the amitriptyline and off the statin and referred me for CBT He's also prescribed ZOPICLONE to take every 3rd night but I'm shattered in between doses.

I saw the original GP the other day about something else but mentioned how sore I am since a fall 7 weeks ago and that I'm not sleeping so he prescribed Imipramine (I guess he saw all the notes about the depression/anxiety I've had this year). I said I'd take the prescription but would research it before I decide to take it. I don't know who to listen to now. I like not being on meds but...................

Hi NEWAYSGIRL

if it's any help, Amitriptyline, Nortriptyline, and Imipramine, are all Tricyllic Antidepressants. They all work in the same way, but there are subtle differences in the way people react to them I.e. one person might not get on with Amytriptiline, but can tolerate Nortriptyline. This type of anti depressant has been around for a long time, and drs tend to use the newer anti -depressants to treat depression on its own. Tricyllic antidepressants are often used in Fibromyalgia in lower doses, along with other drugs to help get a better quality of sleep. I take 50mgs at night and I find they give me a more refreshing sleep.. Everyone is different though, and you're really better to work with your Dr. to find the best treatment that suits you.

I hope this helps and that you feel better soon

Take care. GJ X

Hi gerryjay - Almost forgot to post to you and say thank you. I read your post about Tricyllic antideoressants as I am taking Nortriptyline and didn't really know anything about them. I suppose I should do my homework before swallowing pills!! Thanks xx

Hi NEWAYSGIRL

I saw your previous post but sorry to say I am not taking this drug. I am taking Nortriptyline 50mg daily. However, after reading gerryjay's post I can see that the drugs are almost the same. I am one of those people who can't take amitriptyline as it makes me ill. I haven't heard of your dug though.

Take care
